Where can I download MD-11 liveries for MSFS?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Download MD-11 liveries for MSFS 2020 and 2024 safely, match each repaint to the correct add-on, avoid legacy files, and install it on PC.

Download MD-11 liveries for Microsoft Flight Simulator from the aircraft add-on developer’s official livery tool, when it provides one, or from a reputable MSFS freeware library such as our MSFS downloads section. Every repaint must match the exact MD-11 add-on: old PMDG or iFDG textures made for FSX/FS2004 are not compatible with MSFS 2020 or 2024.

Where should you look for compatible MD-11 liveries?

The best source depends on your platform and the particular MD-11 aircraft package you own.

An official livery tool is usually the simplest choice because it places files where that aircraft expects them. For manually downloaded freeware, read the description and included instructions before copying anything into the simulator.

How do I know whether an MD-11 repaint will work?

A compatible livery must name both your simulator generation and the exact developer’s MD-11 model.

  • Simulator: Look for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 or an explicit statement covering both.
  • Base aircraft: The required MD-11 add-on must be installed. A repaint normally contains textures and configuration data, not the aircraft itself.
  • Variant: Passenger and freighter models may use different texture mapping or configuration entries.
  • Package format: A manual MSFS package normally contains files such as manifest.json and layout.json. Their presence alone does not prove that it matches your aircraft.

Do not assume that every MSFS 2020 livery works in MSFS 2024. Some do when the underlying aircraft is supported, but the creator should explicitly confirm compatibility. A repaint made for another developer’s MD-11 is not interchangeable simply because the aeroplane has the same name.

Can FSX or FS2004 MD-11 liveries be used in MSFS?

No, legacy MD-11 liveries cannot be dropped into the MSFS Community folder and made to work.

This is the most common trap we see with search results. For example, our legacy FSX PMDG MD-11 repaint collection contains more than 50 paints, but it requires the FSX PMDG aircraft. It is not compatible with an MD-11 built for MSFS 2020 or 2024.

The same warning applies to iFDG, SMS Overland and other FS2004 or FSX packages. Proper conversion involves rebuilding the package and adapting texture assignments, not renaming folders or changing the archive extension. The original author’s permissions must also allow conversion and redistribution.

How do I install an MD-11 livery on PC?

Use the aircraft’s supplied livery manager when available; otherwise install the extracted MSFS package in your active Community folder.

  1. Close the simulator so it does not load an incomplete package.
  2. Extract the download rather than placing the ZIP or RAR archive in the Community folder.
  3. Check for an extra folder level. The actual package folder should contain its manifest and layout files, not another identically named wrapper folder.
  4. Copy the package into the Community folder used by your installation. Its location varies with the store version and any custom path selected during setup.
  5. Restart MSFS, select the correct MD-11 and choose the repaint from that aircraft’s available liveries.

Can downloaded MD-11 liveries be installed on consoles?

External livery archives cannot be copied manually to Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5. Console users need a compatible repaint distributed through the simulator’s supported in-simulator content system. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is not available on PlayStation; console references there apply only to PC and Xbox, while Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 also supports PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Why is the MD-11 livery missing or broken?

A missing repaint usually indicates a package-placement or compatibility problem rather than an aircraft-selection fault.

  • If it never appears, check for an unextracted archive, nested package folder or incorrect Community folder.
  • If it appears under no aircraft, confirm that the required MD-11 add-on and correct passenger or freighter variant are installed.
  • If textures are pink, blank or misaligned, remove the package and obtain a version built for that exact model.
  • If two copies exist, keep only the newest compatible package; duplicate package names and configuration entries can conflict.
  • If it stopped working after moving from MSFS 2020 to 2024, obtain an update confirmed for MSFS 2024 rather than editing the manifest blindly.
