Will X-Plane 11 UK scenery work in X-Plane 12?
Many conventional X-Plane 11 scenery packages work in X-Plane 12, but an X-Plane 11 label alone is not a compatibility guarantee. Packages built from standard airport data, objects and DSF scenery are the strongest candidates; old plug-ins, platform-specific installers and obsolete library dependencies create more uncertainty.
- Explicit X-Plane 12 compatibility: choose this when available.
- X-Plane 11 scenery with standard files: often usable, especially for airports and landmarks, but inspect the description and comments for known limitations.
- Older scenery with custom scripts or plug-ins: use only if the developer or download notes confirm X-Plane 12 support.
Required object libraries are separate downloads. Installing the main airport without those libraries commonly produces empty areas, generic objects or a “missing scenery” warning.
Which type of UK scenery should I choose?
Choose airport scenery for detailed runways and buildings, city scenery for VFR landmarks, and orthophoto or mesh packages when the surrounding terrain matters more than one airfield.

A detailed airport does not automatically improve the whole surrounding region. Likewise, orthophoto scenery changes the ground imagery but does not by itself provide accurate terminals, landmarks or city buildings.
How do I install UK scenery in X-Plane 12?
Extract each download and place the actual scenery package inside X-Plane 12/Custom Scenery. Our folder and scenery_packs.ini installation steps cover the full process, but the essential sequence is:
- Extract the archive. X-Plane does not load scenery directly from a ZIP or similar archive.
- Find the package root. Use the folder containing scenery data such as
Earth nav data, objects orlibrary.txt, not an outer folder holding only documentation. - Copy it into Custom Scenery. Keep each scenery package as a separate top-level folder.
- Install every required library. Libraries also belong in
Custom Sceneryand should not be merged into the airport folder. - Check the loading order. Keep airports and city overlays above orthophoto and base-mesh packages in
scenery_packs.ini.
Why is my UK scenery missing or broken?
Missing UK scenery is usually caused by an extra folder level, an absent library or an incorrect scenery_packs.ini order. Load an airport inside the covered area, then inspect X-Plane 12/Log.txt and search for the package name or messages containing “failed”.
- No visible change: confirm that the download covers the exact airport or scenery tile you loaded.
- Package not listed: remove accidental double nesting and verify that it was extracted.
- Buildings or objects absent: install the named libraries and restart X-Plane.
- Terrain looks wrong: check for competing orthophoto or mesh packages covering the same tile.
- Error after loading: read the relevant lines in
Log.txt; they normally identify the missing resource or incompatible component.
