Where can I download Beijing ZBAA scenery for X-Plane 12?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Find ZBAA scenery for X-Plane 12, check compatibility, avoid the FSX/P3D download, and install Beijing Capital Airport correctly.

For Beijing Capital International Airport, start with our X-Plane airport and scenery catalogue and search for ZBAA or Beijing Capital. Use a package marked for X-Plane 12, or a compatible older X-Plane release. X-Plane 12 also includes a default ZBAA, so a separate download is optional.

Which ZBAA scenery download should I choose?

Choose an X-Plane 12-native package when one is available; it presents the lowest compatibility risk. If our catalogue does not return a ZBAA listing identified as X-Plane scenery, use the built-in airport rather than downloading a version made for another simulator.

OptionChoose it whenMain caveat
X-Plane 12 packageThe listing explicitly names X-Plane 12 and you can obtain every required libraryCheck whether it replaces only the airport or also includes mesh or orthophotos
Older X-Plane packageIts documentation or components indicate X-Plane 12 compatibilityOld libraries, plugins and bundled mesh can cause errors
Built-in ZBAAYou want a working airport without extra dependenciesDetail depends on the Global Airports data supplied with the simulator

Do not install our Beijing airport file labelled for FSX and Prepar3D into X-Plane 12. FSX and P3D scenery uses a different format, commonly compiled BGL files, and X-Plane cannot load it.

Can X-Plane 11 ZBAA scenery work in X-Plane 12?

Many conventional X-Plane 11 airport packages can work in X-Plane 12, but compatibility is not automatic. The airport layout and standard objects may load while an old plugin, custom lighting effect, library object or bundled terrain mesh fails.

Before downloading, check that all required libraries support X-Plane 12 and that the package does not depend on an executable plugin built only for an older simulator. Our guide to X-Plane 12 scenery-library compatibility explains how to assess those dependencies.

  • Prefer documentation that explicitly mentions X-Plane 12.
  • Confirm that every named object library is installed and enabled.
  • Treat bundled mesh carefully because it can conflict with regional mesh or orthophoto scenery.
  • Keep the original archive until the airport has loaded without errors.

How do I install ZBAA scenery in X-Plane 12?

A normal ZBAA airport package belongs in the simulator’s Custom Scenery folder. Our full downloaded-scenery installation and ordering walkthrough covers the process; the airport-specific checks are:

  1. Extract the archive. Do not place the ZIP or other compressed file directly in Custom Scenery.
  2. Find the actual package folder. It should normally contain an Earth nav data folder. Remove any unnecessary outer wrapper folder created during extraction.
  3. Copy required libraries separately. Each library must be its own package inside Custom Scenery.
  4. Check scenery priority. In scenery_packs.ini, place the custom ZBAA airport above the *GLOBAL_AIRPORTS* entry. Orthophotos and mesh belong below airport scenery.
  5. Load Beijing Capital. Search for ICAO code ZBAA, not ZBAD, which is Beijing Daxing International Airport.

Why is custom ZBAA scenery not showing?

Most missing-airport cases come from an incorrect folder level, scenery priority or absent library rather than the airport itself. Open Log.txt in the main X-Plane folder after loading ZBAA and search for the package name, missing resources or scenery errors.

  • Default airport still appears: move the custom ZBAA entry above *GLOBAL_AIRPORTS* in scenery_packs.ini.
  • Runways appear but buildings do not: install the required object libraries and check Log.txt for missing resources.
  • Nothing changes after installation: check for a nested folder such as Custom Scenery/ZBAA/ZBAA/Earth nav data.
  • Terrain is distorted or duplicated: disable other ZBAA packages or conflicting mesh one at a time.
  • The package contains BGL files: it is an FSX/P3D download and cannot be converted merely by moving it into Custom Scenery.

Avoid deleting scenery_packs.ini as a routine fix. X-Plane can recreate it, but the regenerated order may place mesh above airports and create a second problem; inspect and correct the relevant entries instead.
