Is GSX available for X-Plane 12?

Ian Stephens
In short

GSX is not available for X-Plane 12. Learn why it will not install, which ground-service alternatives work and what to check before downloading.

No. GSX is not available for X-Plane 12, and its installer cannot add it as an X-Plane plugin. GSX is made for supported Microsoft Flight Simulator and legacy FSX/Prepar3D platforms, which use different software interfaces. In X-Plane, use aircraft-specific services, native jetway functions or an X-Plane 12 ground-handling plugin instead.

Why does GSX not work with X-Plane 12?

GSX and GSX Pro are not platform-independent collections of vehicles. Their code, airport data and profiles rely on interfaces provided by the simulators they support; X-Plane has a different plugin system, scenery format and aircraft interaction model.

Copying GSX files into Resources/plugins, selecting the X-Plane folder in its installer or running the installer through a compatibility layer will not convert it. Our overview of GSX features and simulator support explains what the package provides on compatible platforms.

What can I use instead of GSX in X-Plane 12?

The right replacement depends on whether you need pushback, animated ramp equipment or services integrated with a particular airliner.

What you needX-Plane 12 optionCheck before installing
Planned or tug-controlled pushbackBetterPushbackConfirm that the available build supports X-Plane 12 and your operating system.
Basic vehicles and ramp servicesSimple Ground ServiceFeatures and supported aircraft can vary by release.

Doors, stairs, fuel or catering controlled by the aircraftThe aircraft's EFB, tablet or service menuSome functions require the parking brake, engines off, doors open or chocks fitted.

We compare these choices more closely in our shortlist of suitable X-Plane 12 ground-service plugins. Once installed, service activation may come from the aircraft tablet, the X-Plane plugin menu or a bound command; our guide to operating ground services in X-Plane 12 covers those methods.

Can GSX airport profiles be converted to X-Plane?

No. A GSX profile is configuration data for GSX, not scenery or a self-contained ground-service add-on. It cannot make an X-Plane airport display GSX vehicles, passengers or marshallers.

Use scenery and configuration files made specifically for the X-Plane plugin you choose. A profile mentioning an airport ICAO code does not prove that it supports the same airport package in another simulator.

How do I avoid downloading an incompatible alternative?

Confirm that the product page explicitly names X-Plane 12, your operating system and any required aircraft or scenery dependencies. Do not assume that an X-Plane 11 plugin will work merely because both releases use a Resources/plugins folder; our X-Plane 11-to-12 compatibility checks explain the common exceptions.

A mistake we see constantly is confusing a vehicle or airport profile with the plugin that reads it. Install the main X-Plane-compatible plugin first, verify that it appears in the simulator's plugin menu, and only then add profiles or liveries made for that exact plugin.
