The exact result depends heavily on the flight. A light aircraft over rural default scenery is much easier to render than a glass-cockpit airliner at a detailed international hub in stormy weather. Add-on airports, complex aircraft and road or air traffic can all change the result.

Is 6GB of VRAM enough for Microsoft Flight Simulator?

Six GB of graphics memory is generally enough for 1080p at restrained settings, but it does not give the A380 the performance of a faster card. VRAM capacity and graphics-processing speed are separate limits.

Detailed textures, handcrafted airports, high render resolution and aircraft add-ons can fill the available memory. Typical signs of pressure include sudden frame-time spikes, delayed texture loading and performance deteriorating after moving into a complex area. Start with Medium texture quality and avoid combining high-resolution scenery with aggressive Level of Detail settings.

The card's 6GB is also separate from the computer's system RAM. A machine still needs adequate system memory for the simulator, Windows, traffic and add-ons.

Does the Arc A380 need Resizable BAR?

Resizable BAR should be treated as essential for obtaining the expected performance from an Intel Arc A380. Without it, the card may run, but performance can fall enough to make an already modest MSFS configuration frustrating.

Enable Resizable BAR in the motherboard firmware and confirm that the Intel graphics utility reports it as active. Depending on the motherboard, this may also require UEFI boot and a setting called Above 4G Decoding. The labels vary, and older CPU or motherboard combinations may not support the feature.

Install a current Intel graphics driver before testing. If Resizable BAR cannot be enabled on the computer, we would not choose an A380 specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Which MSFS settings should an Arc A380 use?

The best starting point is 1080p with a conservative preset, followed by adjustments based on the simulator's actual bottleneck.

  1. Start at native 1080p. Avoid 1440p, 4K and ultrawide resolutions while establishing a stable baseline.
  2. Use 100 render scaling initially. If the simulator reports a GPU limit, reduce it gradually towards 90 or 80. Going lower can make cockpit displays and distant scenery noticeably soft.
  3. Reduce GPU-heavy effects. Set Volumetric Clouds to Low or Medium, then lower reflections, ambient occlusion, contact shadows and shadow maps before sacrificing cockpit readability.
  4. Keep textures moderate. Medium texture quality is the safer choice for 6GB of VRAM, especially with detailed airports or aircraft.
  5. Adjust LOD and traffic only when needed. Terrain Level of Detail, Objects Level of Detail, road traffic, airport vehicles and AI traffic can place more pressure on the CPU than the A380.
  6. Test a repeatable demanding flight. Use the same airport, aircraft, weather and camera view after each change. A quiet rural departure is not a useful test for an airliner flight from a major hub.

Why can MSFS still stutter on an Arc A380?

Poor performance is not always proof that the A380 itself is the active bottleneck.

  • GPU-limited: Reduce render scaling, clouds, shadows, reflections and ambient occlusion.
  • MainThread-limited: Lower Terrain and Objects Level of Detail, traffic, airport vehicles and glass-cockpit refresh rate. Lowering resolution will do little in this case.
  • VRAM-limited: Reduce texture quality and remove unusually heavy airport or aircraft add-ons from the test.
  • Irregular pauses with spare GPU capacity: Check online scenery streaming, storage performance, rolling-cache behaviour and add-on conflicts.
  • Instability in MSFS 2020: Test the alternative DirectX mode offered by that simulator. Arc generally benefits from modern graphics APIs, but a particular driver and add-on combination may behave better in the other mode.

Will the Arc A380 handle 1440p, ultrawide or VR?

The Arc A380 is not a sensible choice for consistently demanding 1440p, ultrawide, 4K or VR flying. Those modes increase pixel load sharply, while VR also requires steadier frame times and renders stereoscopic views.

Upscaling may make 1440p technically possible at low settings, but small cockpit text and flight displays can become difficult to read. For detailed airliners, busy hubs or VR, choose substantially more graphics performance and additional VRAM.

Should you buy an Arc A380 specifically for MSFS?

Use an Arc A380 if you already own one, can enable Resizable BAR and accept 1080p compromises. Buying one specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator only makes sense under a strict budget where low power consumption and basic 1080p flying matter more than visual quality or headroom.
