Compare KMCO scenery for X-Plane 12: default, freeware and commercial options, Terminal C coverage, compatibility checks and installation fixes.
For X-Plane 12, Orlando International Airport (KMCO) can be represented by the included Scenery Gateway airport, community freeware packages, or the established commercial Nimbus Simulation Studios KMCO scenery. Check each custom package for explicit X-Plane 12 support, Terminal C coverage, library requirements and compatible animated jetways before installing it.
Which KMCO scenery options are available?
The practical choices are the included Gateway airport, a detailed commercial package or a community-built freeware airport. Regional orthophotos and overlays can improve the wider Orlando area, but they do not replace the airport itself.
| Option | What it provides | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Default Gateway KMCO | An airport supplied through X-Plane 12’s Global Airports scenery, with no external libraries or installation work. | Its layout may be newer than an old add-on, although buildings and terminal details are usually less customised. |
| Nimbus Simulation Studios KMCO | A handcrafted commercial Orlando International package with more detailed terminals, aprons and airport objects. | Both older and updated builds may be encountered. Confirm that the exact build states X-Plane 12 support and check its jetway or plugin requirements. |
| Community freeware KMCO | Custom airport packages ranging from improved Gateway layouts to detailed terminals using shared object libraries. | Required libraries, publication date, Terminal C coverage and whether the package was actually checked in X-Plane 12. |
| Orlando orthophotos and overlays | Better roads, buildings, vegetation and aerial imagery outside the airport boundary. | These belong below the airport in scenery priority and cannot correct an outdated KMCO layout. |
Freeware availability changes as authors revise or withdraw individual packages. Search our airport and regional scenery archive for KMCO, MCO and Orlando International; those three search terms do not always return the same files.
How can I tell whether KMCO scenery includes Terminal C?
Terminal C is the quickest way to judge whether an Orlando scenery package represents the newer airport layout. An older, highly detailed commercial airport can be visually richer yet less accurate than a newer Gateway submission if it still depicts KMCO before the southern terminal complex opened.
Check the package description, screenshots and change notes for the Terminal C building, its gates, connecting taxiways and revised parking positions. Do not assume that an unspecified “updated airport” includes all of them. Also check whether airline gate assignments matter to you, because scenery can contain the terminal visually while retaining generic or outdated ramp starts.
Does X-Plane 11 KMCO scenery work in X-Plane 12?
Many X-Plane 11 airport packages load in X-Plane 12, but loading successfully does not prove full compatibility. Basic airport data, objects and textures often survive the move; legacy ground-traffic plugins, old lighting, animated jetways and weather-aware surfaces are more likely to cause trouble.
Use our checks for moving older add-ons into X-Plane 12 before relying on an XP11-only KMCO package. If the author supplies a separate XP12 build or patch, use that rather than copying the older installation unchanged.
How do I install KMCO scenery in X-Plane 12?
Install a custom KMCO package under Custom Scenery, then give it higher priority than Global Airports, regional overlays, orthophotos and mesh.
- Extract the download. Open the resulting folder and confirm that
Earth nav datais inside it rather than buried one folder deeper. Follow the included instructions if the package deliberately uses several folders. - Remove or disable another custom KMCO. Keep only one airport replacement active; otherwise terminals, taxiway signs and ramp objects can overlap.
- Copy the package and libraries. Place the airport folder in
Custom Sceneryand install every listed object library separately. - Let X-Plane register it. Start and close the simulator, then inspect
Custom Scenery/scenery_packs.ini. Put the custom KMCO above Global Airports and above Orlando overlays, orthophotos and mesh. - Test the airport. Load KMCO in daylight and at night, check several gates, then inspect
Log.txtif X-Plane reports missing scenery or resources.
If KMCO is part of a larger X-World, AutoOrtho or Ortho4XP setup, follow our guide to ordering global scenery, overlays and mesh. A mistake we see constantly is placing an orthophoto or mesh package above the airport and then blaming KMCO for missing aprons or misplaced buildings.
Why are buildings duplicated or objects missing at KMCO?
Most KMCO display problems come from duplicate airports, incorrect scenery order or absent libraries rather than X-Plane’s graphics settings.
- Two terminals occupy the same position: disable the second custom KMCO and ensure the remaining airport sits above Global Airports.
- X-Plane reports that scenery may not look correct: search
Log.txtforFailed to find resource, then install or update the named library. - Jetways are present but do not move: the package may require a compatible animation plugin, or it may use static jetways rather than X-Plane 12’s native system.
- Trees or autogen appear on aprons: an overlay may be above the airport, or the airport package may lack suitable exclusion zones.
- The airport works but Terminal C is absent: this is normally an older layout, not a scenery-order fault. Replace it with a newer build rather than combining two KMCO packages.
