Which Cessna Caravan is being compared?
The relevant built-in Microsoft Flight Simulator aircraft is the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX, not the shorter Cessna 208 or an older Grand Caravan configuration. Those models have different dimensions, engines and performance, so mixing their figures produces a misleading comparison.

Configuration also matters. A wheeled Kodiak, a float-equipped Kodiak and the standard wheeled Grand Caravan are not interchangeable packages. Confirm that the aircraft product explicitly includes the undercarriage variant you need rather than assuming floats can be fitted through a loading menu.
Is the Kodiak 100 better for bush flying?
Yes, the Kodiak 100 is normally the better MSFS choice for short, uneven and obstructed bush strips. Its combination of lower mass, strong power-to-weight performance and short-field design gives it more margin where the Grand Caravan starts to feel large.
That performance does not remove the need for careful turboprop handling. High power at low airspeed creates substantial yaw, and an aft centre of gravity can make the Kodiak unexpectedly sensitive in pitch. Common causes of a poor Kodiak take-off include:
- Applying power too abruptly: advance the power lever progressively and correct the developing yaw with rudder rather than waiting for a large swing.
- Ignoring rudder trim: use the take-off setting specified by the installed aircraft's checklist; settings vary between implementations.
- Loading the cabin without checking the CG: passengers and cargo affect handling, not just total weight.
- Leaving the inertial separator deployed: where the model simulates its performance penalty, retract it when runway conditions and the checklist permit.

It is also the practical choice for many MSFS 2024 Career Mode pilots. The built-in aircraft is associated with cargo and utility work, while a third-party Kodiak may remain limited to Free Flight or selected activities unless its package has explicit Career support. Do not mistake easier handling for unlimited performance. A heavily loaded Caravan at a hot, high-altitude strip needs careful runway and climb planning. Beta range and reverse thrust help after touchdown, but they cannot rescue an unstable or excessively fast approach.
