How do I map a T.Flight HOTAS One throttle in MSFS 2020 on Xbox Series X?
Map a T.Flight HOTAS One throttle in MSFS 2020 on Xbox Series X and fix reversed, missing or conflicting throttle inputs.
Connect the T.Flight HOTAS One to the Xbox Series X in Xbox mode before launching Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Open Controls Options, select the HOTAS, and bind its lever to Throttle Axis (0–100%). Remove competing throttle assignments, save the preset, then test idle and full power; reverse the axis if required.
How to map the HOTAS One throttle on Xbox Series X
- Connect the HOTAS before starting MSFS 2020. Set the hardware selector to Xbox mode and plug it directly into the console. If the simulator was suspended through Quick Resume, quit it completely and relaunch it after connecting the HOTAS.
- Open the HOTAS control profile. From the main menu, go to Options, then Controls Options, and select the T.Flight HOTAS One from the device row.
- Create an editable preset. If MSFS supplies a locked default profile, use the preset manager to duplicate it. Give the copy a recognisable name so later changes do not affect the original mapping.
- Find the throttle command. Set the filter to All and search for
Throttle Axis. Select Throttle Axis (0 to 100%), open its assignment box, start input scanning and move the throttle lever through part of its travel. Validate the detected axis. - Clear conflicting assignments. Use the search-by-input function and move the lever again. Remove unwanted commands attached to that same axis, particularly another throttle axis, mixture, propeller or a digital throttle increase/decrease command.
- Save and test the full range. Apply the profile, load a simple aircraft with its engine running, and move the lever from its rear stop to its forward stop. Confirm that the cockpit throttle travels smoothly from idle to full power.
The stick axes and buttons are stored in the same device profile. Our complete HOTAS control-profile walkthrough covers pitch, roll, yaw, view controls and duplicate assignments without repeating the throttle procedure here.
Which throttle axis should I choose?
Throttle Axis (0 to 100%) is the correct starting point for a HOTAS One lever used from idle to full forward power.
| MSFS control | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Throttle Axis (0 to 100%) | Recommended for normal idle-to-full-power movement without reverse thrust occupying part of the lever travel. |
| Throttle Axis | Use only when you deliberately want an axis range that includes reverse power and the aircraft supports it correctly. |
| Throttle 1 Axis, Throttle 2 Axis | Use when a particular aircraft requires separate engine axes. A single lever can be assigned to both, but it cannot provide independent engine control. |
For jets, keep the main lever on the 0–100% axis and search the controls for reverse thrust. Assign a spare HOTAS button to the available toggle or hold command rather than sacrificing forward-thrust travel.
Why is the HOTAS One throttle reversed, stuck or erratic?
Most HOTAS One throttle faults come from a reversed axis, duplicate binding or an aircraft system overriding the physical lever.
- The cockpit throttle moves backwards: open the throttle-axis assignment and enable its reverse-axis option. Do not compensate by assigning the opposite digital command.
- The lever acts like an on/off button: it has probably been bound to Throttle Increase or Throttle Decrease instead of an analogue throttle axis. Delete that binding and scan the lever under Throttle Axis (0 to 100%).
- Only part of the travel works: confirm that the 0–100% command is selected, clear duplicate axes, and then follow our throttle range and calibration checks.
- The throttle jumps or moves by itself: search every connected device for another throttle assignment. Add only a small dead zone if the input indicator still flickers after conflicts have been removed.
- The HOTAS is missing from Controls Options: check Xbox mode, reconnect it before launching the simulator, quit Quick Resume and restart the console if necessary. PC mode will not provide the correct Xbox device profile.
Test the mapping in a basic general-aviation aircraft before adjusting an airliner's detents. Autothrottle, Airbus-style thrust detents and aircraft-specific tablet calibration can make a correctly mapped physical lever appear unresponsive. Disengage autothrottle during the basic test.
Can I keep using the Xbox controller with the HOTAS?
Yes; the Xbox controller can remain active for menus, cameras and cockpit interaction while the HOTAS handles flight controls.
Each device has its own profile, so you do not need to erase every controller binding. If the throttle changes without touching the HOTAS, inspect the controller profile for competing throttle commands and check that AI piloting or assisted throttle is disabled. Our Xbox controller configuration guide explains how to separate those roles cleanly.
