For the best Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 graphics on Xbox Series X, use 4K output, enable VRR if your display supports it, calibrate HDR rather than over-brightening the TV, and keep Bing World Data and Photogrammetry enabled. Online scenery options must remain enabled because much of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020’s detailed terrain and aerial imagery is streamed rather than stored locally.
- Online Functionality: Turn it on. Disabling it forces the simulator to use less detailed offline scenery.
- Bing Data World Graphics: Turn it on for streamed aerial imagery and terrain data.
- Photogrammetry: Leave it on for detailed 3D cities. Turning it off may produce cleaner generic buildings in a poorly captured area, but it reduces overall geographic accuracy.
- Data limitation: Disable the limit on an uncapped broadband connection. Retain a suitable limit if the connection is metered.
- Rolling Cache: Enable it when the connection is inconsistent or frequently revisiting the same area. A larger cache stores more downloaded scenery but does not increase texture quality or LOD.
Does rolling cache improve Xbox graphics?
Rolling Cache can reduce repeated downloads and scenery pop-in, but it cannot make the fixed Xbox rendering preset sharper. A modest cache is normally enough; allocating a very large one wastes storage without improving each frame.
If scenery suddenly becomes blocky or refuses to finish loading, delete and recreate the rolling cache, then fully quit and restart the simulator. Do not assume the television or HDR calibration is responsible for missing terrain data.
How can I improve frame rate without graphics sliders?
Reduce traffic and background simulation first because these changes preserve terrain and aircraft image quality.
- Lower ground traffic. Reduce parked aircraft, airport vehicles, road vehicles, ships and ferries, especially at large handcrafted airports.
- Test online traffic. Temporarily disable real-time air traffic or multiplayer if stutters occur only at busy hubs. This identifies a traffic bottleneck without changing scenery quality.
- Test simpler weather. Dense cloud layers can reduce performance. Xbox has no cloud-quality slider, so choose lighter weather only when steadier frame delivery matters more than the intended conditions.
- Perform a full restart. Quit the simulator from the Xbox menu instead of resuming a long-running Quick Resume session. This can restore online scenery connections and clear degraded session behaviour.
A mistake we see constantly is lowering the Xbox output to 1080p before checking traffic or online-data problems. That makes instruments and distant scenery softer, while the simulator still manages its internal workload automatically.
Why is MSFS scenery still blurry or shimmering?
Blurry terrain usually indicates delayed or disabled streamed scenery, while shimmering is more often caused by temporal reconstruction, output scaling or excessive television sharpening.
