How do you remove wheel chocks in MSFS 2024?

Ian Stephens
In short

Remove wheel chocks in MSFS 2024 using the walkaround, aircraft EFB or ground services, with fixes for missing controls and failed pushback.

To remove wheel chocks in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, keep the parking brake set, then use the chock interaction during the walkaround, switch Chocks off on the aircraft’s EFB or tablet, or request removal through ground services. The correct method depends on the aircraft; MSFS 2024 has no universal chock shortcut.

How do I remove chocks during the MSFS 2024 walkaround?

During a pre-flight walkaround, remove each modelled chock directly at the landing gear.

  1. Set the parking brake. This prevents the aircraft moving as soon as the chocks disappear, particularly on a sloping stand.
  2. Enter the walkaround mode. Approach the landing gear in first-person mode rather than using the normal external or drone camera.
  3. Aim at the chock. Move close enough for the interaction prompt to appear, then use the displayed primary-interact control. The button shown varies between keyboard and mouse, Xbox controllers and PS5 controls.
  4. Check the other wheels. Some aircraft remove every chock with one interaction; others model separate chocks at the nose and main landing gear.

This is the usual method when a Career activity or pre-flight objective explicitly asks you to remove the chocks. Releasing the parking brake is not a substitute: the brake and wheel chocks are separate systems.

Where is the wheel-chock control in the cockpit?

If there is no walkaround hotspot, the aircraft may control its chocks through an EFB, tablet or ground-services interface.

  • Aircraft EFB or tablet: open its Ground or Services section and turn off or remove the chocks. Page names and switch wording vary by aircraft.
  • Simulator ground services: request chock removal if that service appears for the aircraft and parking position. Our guide to requesting MSFS 2024 ground services explains where these requests are made.
  • Aircraft-specific ground equipment: complex aircraft may use their own tablet exclusively. In that case, the simulator’s general service controls may not change the visible equipment.

Use the physical walkaround interaction when a hotspot is present; use the EFB when the aircraft supplies a chock switch. Avoid repeatedly trying both while the aircraft is unsecured, as removing the chocks with the parking brake released can let it roll.

Why won’t the wheel chocks come off?

Most chock-removal failures come from using the wrong interaction method for that aircraft.

  • No interaction prompt: make sure you are in the first-person walkaround and close to the actual chock. A normal external camera cannot perform the physical interaction.
  • The chocks are visible but not clickable: check the aircraft’s EFB or tablet. They may be controlled as ground equipment rather than as a walkaround object.
  • The EFB switch does nothing: keep the parking brake set, toggle the chock state back on and off once, then reopen the EFB. If the state remains stuck, reload the flight or aircraft.
  • The aircraft still will not move: verify the parking brake is released only when appropriate and confirm that the tug has connected. Chocks are only one possible cause; our pushback failure checklist covers brakes, tug connections and aircraft-specific equipment.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for wheel chocks?

MSFS 2024 does not provide a dependable universal default shortcut for wheel chocks.

You can search the selected controller’s assignments for a chock-related command, but many aircraft expose the function only through their EFB or interactive model. Our guide to finding and changing control bindings explains how to search each connected device. Do not assign the parking-brake command as a supposed chock control; it operates the brakes, not the ground equipment.

When should I remove chocks before pushback?

Remove the chocks with the parking brake set, request the tug, and release the parking brake only when the pushback system instructs you to do so.

Removing them too early can let the aircraft creep; leaving them installed can prevent the tug from moving it. For the complete order of actions, use our pushback control sequence.
