Microsoft Flight Simulator has no T-38 Talon package in our native MSFS freeware library that we can confidently recommend as a complete aircraft. The T-38 downloads we host are legacy FSX or FS2004 products, not drop-in MSFS add-ons. For modern MSFS, verify any listing is explicitly built for MSFS 2020 or 2024.
Which T-38 downloads are actually available?
Our catalogue contains two relevant legacy downloads, but neither is a native Microsoft Flight Simulator aircraft.

The distinction between a complete aircraft and a repaint matters here. A repaint supplies textures for an existing model; it does not include the cockpit, flight model or systems needed to fly. The MilViz repaint therefore remains unusable without its specified FSX/P3D base aircraft, which is itself not a native MSFS package.
Can an FSX or FS2004 T-38 work in Microsoft Flight Simulator?
No, not by copying it into the MSFS Community folder. FSX and FS2004 aircraft use different model, gauge, effect and configuration formats. Adding manifest.json or renaming folders does not convert them.
A proper conversion requires source files, permission from the rights holder and extensive work in the modern MSFS toolchain. Cockpit instruments, animations, materials, sounds and flight behaviour may all need rebuilding. This is why a legacy T-38 repaint cannot be turned into an MSFS aircraft through an installer or compatibility setting.
How do I verify that a T-38 add-on is genuinely MSFS-compatible?
A genuine native package should identify the exact simulator generation and provide the files or installation method expected by that version.
- Check the named simulator. The description should explicitly state Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 or both. “Flight Simulator”, FSX and Prepar3D are not interchangeable labels.
- Identify the package type. Look for “complete aircraft” rather than “repaint”, “livery” or “texture set”. If another T-38 product is listed as a requirement, the aircraft itself is not included.
- Inspect manual-download structure. A typical native package has
manifest.jsonandlayout.json, with aircraft content underSimObjects/Airplanes. The folder containing those files belongs inCommunity; an extra nested folder is a common reason aircraft fail to appear. - Confirm version support. Many MSFS 2020 aircraft can work in MSFS 2024, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Custom avionics, WASM systems, effects and animations are common failure points unless the package has been checked or updated for 2024.
- Match the platform. Manually downloaded Community-folder aircraft are for PC. Xbox and PlayStation users need an edition offered through the simulator's add-on catalogue for that platform. PlayStation applies only to MSFS 2024 because MSFS 2020 was never released there.
Once a native package passes those checks, use our Community-folder installation and troubleshooting steps rather than instructions written for FSX.
What should I choose if no native T-38 is listed?
Choose only an explicitly native T-38 if accurate Talon cockpit layout, twin-engine handling and training procedures are your priorities. An F-5 may share the same design lineage, but it is not a T-38, and its models and liveries are not interchangeable.
