Approaches across every runway end

Newark Liberty’s instrument coverage reaches all six ends of its three conventional runways rather than concentrating procedures on one alignment. ILS and RNAV (GPS) options form the core, with localiser procedures adding further coverage and two helicopter approaches addressing H1. Two ILS charts include CAT II/III minima, adding a deeper level of precision coverage. The 6,725 ft runway 11/29 is materially shorter than either 04/22 parallel, so the three runways are not interchangeable in runway-length planning.

Nearby and VFR coverage

Among nearby fields, LaGuardia has the only comparably broad chart collection. Teterboro and Morristown have substantial but smaller sets, while Linden’s coverage is much thinner. The New York Sectional supplies wider VFR context, the Terminal Area Chart provides a more focused terminal view, and the Helicopter Route Chart adds dedicated rotorcraft routing context absent from the instrument procedures.

Where can I download the KEWR airport diagram?

The official FAA airport diagram for Newark Liberty Intl is free to download at the top of this page. It shows runways, taxiways, ramp layout and hold-short positions, and is reissued every 28 days.

Does KEWR have CAT II or CAT III approaches?

Yes. 2 of the published ILS procedures carry CAT II/III minima, which allow approaches in lower visibility than a standard CAT I ILS. Those plates are listed separately in the approach table above, marked CAT II or CAT III in the chart name.

Is KEWR a towered airport?

Yes. Newark Liberty Intl has an operating control tower, within New York Center's airspace. Tower, ground and clearance frequencies are listed on this page.

How many runways does KEWR have?

4, which is why the chart set is as large as it is — each runway end that supports an instrument approach needs its own plates. The runway diagram on this page shows the layout to scale.

Are these KEWR charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
