New York and the coastal corridor

The lower Hudson, New York City, western and central Long Island form the spine of this broad east–west sheet. Coverage also reaches across northern New Jersey, northeastern Pennsylvania and southern Connecticut, with Atlantic coastal waters along its southern side. Dense metropolitan development sits beside tidal waterways, barrier beaches and Long Island Sound, while wooded hills shape the inland margins.

Connections beyond the sheet

Routes continuing south-west move towards the Philadelphia and Baltimore–Washington Terminal Area Charts, while the Boston sheet provides the corresponding coverage to the east. These adjoining products matter particularly for longer journeys along the north-eastern urban corridor, where a route can leave the New York sheet before reaching its wider regional destination.

Related New York coverage

The Sectional Aeronautical Chart places the same area in a broader regional setting and at a less concentrated scale. The Helicopter Route Chart provides a more specialised treatment for helicopter operations across the metropolitan area. Together, they complement the tighter geographic focus of the Terminal Area Chart without serving the same purpose.

Common questions

What area does the New York Terminal Area Chart cover?

It spans 40.2°N to 41.4°N and 75.7°W to 72.6°W. Airports on the sheet fall within Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The full list of public-use airports within its coverage is on this page.

Should I download the GeoTIFF or the PDF?

Take the GeoTIFF if you are loading the chart into moving-map software or a flight planner — it is georeferenced, so the software can place it correctly on a map, and it ships with a world file and FGDC metadata at 300 dpi (23.3 MB). Take the PDF to print it or read it on a second screen (48.2 MB); it is the same chart without georeferencing.

Is this the current New York chart?

This is the FAA edition effective 9 July 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. Visual charts are reissued every 56 days and we publish each new edition on the day it takes effect. It is for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.

Which charts adjoin the New York sheet?

Philadelphia to the south-west, Baltimore-Washington to the south-west and Boston to the east. Each is linked from this page, so a route running off one edge can be continued on the next sheet.

Is the New York Terminal Area Chart free to download?

Yes, with no account required. FAA charts are United States Government works and are not subject to copyright protection in the US under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Guest downloads are speed-capped, so a sheet this size takes a while; PRO members download at full line speed and can take the whole family as one archive.
