Procedure coverage

Sherman AAF’s three approaches serve both ends of its sole runway, so instrument procedure coverage is not confined to one landing direction. Two RNAV (GPS) procedures provide the larger share, supplemented by one VOR approach. With six departure charts against three approaches, the published procedure set is notably more extensive for outbound routing than for arrivals.

Local chart context

The 5,318-foot Runway 16/34 provides a single alignment, making its length the central runway constraint in aircraft planning. Nearby chart coverage varies sharply: Kansas City International has by far the broadest set, while Kansas City Downtown/Wheeler Field and Rosecrans Memorial also exceed Sherman’s coverage; Lawrence Regional is much thinner. The Kansas City Sectional supplies broader regional context, while the Terminal Area Chart gives a more detailed local view.
