Instrument coverage

Delaware Coastal’s four approaches are split evenly between RNAV (GPS) and VOR procedures, but serve only two of the airport’s four runway ends. Instrument coverage is therefore concentrated by landing direction while providing two navigation methods. The 5,500 ft and 3,109 ft runways also differ substantially: changing alignment can reduce the available runway length by 2,391 ft, so the two strips are not equivalent in dimension.

Regional chart context

Dover AFB has markedly broader procedure coverage, while Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional and Cape May County have similarly sized chart sets. Ocean City Municipal is also comparable, whereas Laurel’s coverage is much thinner. The Washington Sectional adds the wider visual-navigation context not shown by the terminal procedures.
