Approach coverage

Calhoun County’s three instrument approaches are concentrated on two of its four runway ends, leaving the other two without a published approach. Two RNAV (GPS) procedures are supplemented by a VOR procedure, providing two approach types without extending coverage to another end. Wharton Regional has markedly broader chart coverage; Victoria Regional and Aransas County are also broader, while Jackson County is thinner and Palacios Municipal is similar in scale.

Runways and VFR context

The 5,004 ft asphalt runway provides more than twice the length of the 2,432 ft turf runway, making the shorter strip the more restrictive part of the layout for aircraft requiring greater take-off or landing distance or a hard surface. The Houston and San Antonio sectionals add broader visual-navigation context, while the US Gulf Coast Helicopter Route Chart adds the relevant helicopter-route depiction.
