Approach coverage

MAKS AAF’s three approaches serve both ends of its single runway. With two RNAV (GPS) procedures and one VOR procedure divided between those ends, one direction necessarily has an additional approach option. GNSS-based procedures predominate, while the VOR approach provides a different form of procedure coverage. The 4,107 ft runway is the field’s only alignment, so all published approaches lead to the same strip and there is no longer second runway for aircraft requiring greater take-off or landing distance.

Chart context

Among the nearby airports listed, Alexandria International alone has broader chart coverage. Leesville, Beauregard Regional, Allen Parish and Hart all have thinner published sets than MAKS AAF. The Houston Sectional adds the wider visual context around Fort Polk that the airport diagram and instrument procedures do not provide.
