SAN’s procedure set centres on runway 09/27. At 9,401 ft, runway length is not the conspicuous constraint; the defining feature is that every published approach leads to one of two ends on the same strip. Both ends are served, with ILS, localiser and RNAV (GPS) options, so the approach coverage is not tied to a single guidance type. The numerous departure procedures and arrival routes place equal emphasis on structured routing beyond the runway itself.
North Island NAS has the broadest procedure coverage among the nearby fields, although its set is still thinner than SAN’s. Miramar MCAS and Gillespie Field form the next tier, while Imperial Beach NOLF is much more lightly charted. The Los Angeles sectional supplies wider VFR context, and the San Diego Terminal Area Chart adds a more focused local view.
