Gillespie Field has six runway ends, but published approaches serve only two of them, leaving instrument coverage concentrated on selected directions. Three approaches across those two ends mean at least one has multiple procedures. The two RNAV (GPS) approaches are complemented by a localiser option. Runway length also varies substantially: the 5,342 ft runway is nearly twice the length of the 2,738 ft parallel, creating distinctly different constraints across the three-runway layout.
San Diego International has the broadest nearby procedure set, with 29 charts; North Island NAS and Miramar MCAS also exceed Gillespie’s coverage. Montgomery-Gibbs Executive and Ramona have thinner eight-chart sets. The Los Angeles and Phoenix sectionals provide broader VFR context, while the San Diego Terminal Area Chart supplies a more focused local view than the instrument procedures.
