FSX AFCAD File For KPDX

Portland International Airport (KPDX) receives a refreshed AFCAD for Microsoft Flight Simulator X with updated runway geometry, parking assignments, and taxiway layouts aligned to current charts. Optional crosswind runway operations improve AI traffic flow, while corrected signage, vehicle paths, and a relocated control tower viewpoint deliver smoother, more realistic ground operations.

This freeware release provides a refreshed AFCAD configuration for Portland International Airport (KPDX) in Oregon, thoughtfully crafted by Ray Smith. It integrates updated runway setups, revised parking assignments, and accurate ground layouts for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Below you will find technical setup steps, along with notes about optional crosswind functionality that optimizes traffic flow across each runway strip.

Enhanced Layout and Key Changes

Ray Smith's latest work incorporates current real-world geometry for KPDX, including authentic runway lengths and designated usage restrictions. Runway 3/21 is operational for crosswind traffic (if desired) but accommodates limited aircraft categories due to its adjusted dimensions. All taxiway markings, signage, and ground vehicle paths have been meticulously aligned with present-day charts, ensuring minimal congestion during virtual operations. Furthermore, the in-simulator control tower perspective has shifted to replicate an internal view, granting a more immersive vantage.

Previous Versions

If you have a prior iteration of this AFCAD, remove or relocate those figures from any folder tied to the simulator. Keeping multiple KPDX files under the same directory will generate conflicts and inaccurate parking placements.

Installation Details

  1. Choose your desired runway operation file (crosswind enabled or default) along with KPDX_CVX.bgl, then drop both into your Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery folder.
  2. Take the KPDX_OBJ.BGL file and place it in the Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery folder.
  3. Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X to load the revised airport data.

Important Note: Only one runway operation file and the KPDX_CVX.bgl should be active in the Addon Scenery path at any time. Make sure any preexisting KPDX files are removed from that directory. The KPDX_CVX.BGL component should remain available for proper scenery integration.

If you run additional AI traffic add-ons, verify that none have deployed an older KPDX AFCAD. Overlapping files may cause derivative parking issues and undesired runway usage.

Crosswind ATIS Advisory

When you utilize the version designed for parallel and crosswind operations (KPDX_CW_RS.BGL), you will notice that ATIS broadcasts mention fictitious runways. This artifact arises from the crosswind activation method. If this detracts from your experience, you may revert to the KPDX_RS.BGL version, which removes these artificial entries and maintains standard runway guidance.

Uninstallation

  • Simply delete the installed BGL files from their respective folders. The default airport arrangement for KPDX will revert into place upon your next simulator session.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D AFCAD file
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place AFCAD file

AFCAD files (AF2_*.bgl or AFX_*.bgl) go into FSX\Addon Scenery\Scenery\ or a dedicated AFCAD folder you create.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
