Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This comprehensive freeware package refines Auckland International Airport (NZAA) for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, introducing pivotal corrections and enhancements to the default layout. Created by Ray Smith, this release implements new parking assignments, A380-compatible gates, custom support vehicle routing, and fresh taxiway alignments to better reflect the real-world airport operations in New Zealand. It also incorporates the Novotel structure near the main terminal to add further realism, while maintaining carefully improved taxi signs and additional fuel trucks for more detailed ground services.

Refined Airport Configuration for Realistic Operations

In this update, the airport’s original geometry has been modified to accommodate modern aircraft requirements. For instance, gates specifically designed for the Airbus A380 (a large wide-body airliner) have been added, ensuring accurate parking positions for heavy traffic. On the ground, vehicle roads have been rebuilt, and fueling points are increased to support long-haul routes. These modifications are intended to enhance immersion during both daytime and nighttime operations.

Included BGL Files

NZAA_RS.BGL
Contains the primary AFCAD data featuring reworked parking assignments and traffic flow adjustments.
NZAA_CVX.bgl
Manages the terrain alterations, ensuring the airport boundaries match up properly with taxiways and runways.
NZAA_OBJ.BGL
Provides additional objects such as the Novotel building and extended jetway sections.

Installation Steps

  1. Remove or relocate any older versions of these files from Addon Scenery or other directories to prevent conflicts.
  2. Place NZAA_RS.BGL and NZAA_CVX.bgl into your “Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery” folder.
  3. Move NZAA_OBJ.BGL into your “Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery” directory to activate the custom objects.
  4. For updated jetway graphics, copy jfk_jetway.dds and jfk_jetway_LM.dds (day and night textures) from “FSX/Scenery/NAME/Texture” into “FSX/Scenery/Global/Texture.” If you have previously performed this step for another airport, you may skip it.
  5. Launch your simulator. The newly revised airport elements should appear immediately.

Conflict Prevention

While using these NZAA files, remove or disable any other AFCAD or NZAA-related modifications to avoid unpredictable aircraft parking or duplicated scenery. If you run AI traffic programs, confirm they have not installed a separate AFCAD for Auckland. In case of ongoing issues, search for conflicting files that might reside in your Addon Scenery folder.

Easy Removal

To revert to the simulator’s default configuration, just delete all three BGL files. Microsoft Flight Simulator X will then restore the original airport scenery. This modular approach makes it simple to switch between default settings and customized layouts as needed.

AFCAD files (AF2_*.bgl or AFX_*.bgl) go into FSX\Addon Scenery\Scenery\ or a dedicated AFCAD folder you create.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
