Regional Express SAAB 340B livery VH-ZLH brings a true-to-life Australian commuter look to FSX, with accurate REX branding, logos, and surface details that suit low-level regional hops across New South Wales. This repaint offers a detailed depiction of the Regional Express (REX) SAAB 340B, coded VH-ZLH, frequently seen shuttling passengers to smaller interior destinations across New South Wales, Australia. Designed for enthusiasts of realistic commuter flights, it reproduces an authentic short-haul experience within FSX. Created by Joshua Russell, this freeware repaint accurately captures the airline's current operations, especially the continued use of the SAAB 340 on vital regional routes.

Accurate Visual Representation of VH-ZLH

This repaint emphasizes the aircraft’s real-world exterior markings, including the signature REX branding on the fuselage. It recreates the streamlined profile of the SAAB 340B, ensuring rivets, windows, and control surfaces align with the real-life counterpart. The addition of correct airline logos and color palette enhances immersion during low-altitude journeys and airport taxiing sequences.

Short-Haul Capability

The SAAB 340B is well-suited for shorter flight segments. It provides a stable platform for regional hops to inland cities, reflecting REX’s strategy of connecting lesser-known areas to larger hubs. In FSX, this model delivers efficient handling and a dependable cruise performance, making it ideal for pilot training exercises or casual group flights.

Installation and Base Model Requirement

Since this package is a repaint only, it does not include the original freeware SAAB 340 model. You will need to acquire the required base aircraft, which is also available to download from the Fly Away Simulation mod library. Once the base files are obtained, the provided repaint texture can be added to your FSX installation, completing your new REX livery.

This aircraft comes overloaded by default (all seats full + 1500lbs of cargo), which doesn't help its flight characteristics. Even with the loading corrected (empty save for flight crew & fuel), there's still a tendency to pitch forward, which can be taken care of by adjusting the elevator trim, but woe be unto him who is spawned into the air with a mountain rapidly approaching.
