FSX Kruger Mpumalanga Int'l Airport Scenery

Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (FAKN) near Nelspruit is recreated with photo-based ground imagery, custom terminal and hangar models, and terrain-matched elevation work that suits flights into the Kruger National Park gateway in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. For best terrain consistency, it requires the Aeroworx mesh to keep waterways and structures aligned.

Experience a precise rendition of Kruger Mpumalanga Int'l Airport (FAKN) situated near Nelspruit, designed especially for high-fidelity simulation of flights serving the iconic Kruger National Park region. This freeware package by Aeroworx integrates detailed custom buildings, aerially sourced ground imagery, and carefully aligned elevation data for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Scenery Highlights and Technical Details

Expect photo-based terrain textures that depict the surrounding landscapes as well as hand-crafted hangars and terminal areas. To ensure accurate topography, the developers (including Hannes Steyn, André Steyn, Johan van Wyk, and Mundus Yssel) recommend using an Aeroworx mesh that refines the altitude of dams and other water bodies. By fine-tuning vector data specifically for these mesh variations, the scenery avoids floating or sunken structures. Because Kruger Mpumalanga Int'l Airport serves as the gateway to one of Africa’s largest game reserves, its layout carefully reflects regional authenticity.

Performance Considerations

For best results, maintain a 1m mesh resolution in your simulator settings. This resolution aids in accomplishing terrain accuracy and preserving the carefully designed ground elevations around rivers, reservoirs, and airfield surfaces.

Installation Procedure in Microsoft Flight Simulator X

  1. Extract the contents of the “fsxWorx15.zip” package to a temporary folder. Consider creating a dedicated directory for storing all Aeroworx scenery files.
  2. Run the “fsxWorx15.exe” installer, which detects your simulator’s installation path. Follow the on-screen prompts for a streamlined setup process.
  3. The installer places its primary files into “SASceneryFSX” and “AeroworxLC” directories, both stored within the main FSX Scenery folder.
  4. If desired, you may extract them manually for review before transferring them into the correct FSX folders. However, make sure future updates always locate the intended files in their default positions.
  5. After successful installation, run Microsoft Flight Simulator X, open the Scenery Library, and select “Add Area.” Point to “SASceneryFSX” and then “AeroworxLC.” Confirm your additions, exit the simulator, and then restart it. The newly installed scenery will activate automatically.

Requires dependencies

This add-on may require the following files to function properly. If this is a repaint, the dependency below is likely the base aircraft package.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
