Manual aircraft packages belong under SimObjects\Airplanes inside the FSX installation being used. This matters when boxed FSX and Steam Edition are both installed, as placing the aircraft in the inactive copy leaves it invisible in the simulator.
Some archives contain files for both FSX and Prepar3D. Follow the FSX instructions and do not substitute platform-specific gauges or configuration files merely because the exterior model supports both simulators.
Why does an installed Boeing 777 not appear in FSX?
An FSX 777 usually fails to appear because its folder is nested one level too deeply, the download is only a repaint, or it was copied into the wrong FSX installation.
- Extract the archive first. Unpack it into a temporary folder rather than trying to run the aircraft from inside the ZIP file.
- Find the aircraft root. The expected structure is similar to
SimObjects\Airplanes\Your 777\aircraft.cfg, with themodel,panel,soundand texture folders beside that file. - Check whether it is a complete aircraft. Some downloads, including certain 777-300ER liveries, require an existing compatible Project Opensky base model. A texture folder alone cannot appear as a flyable aircraft.
- Install supporting files as instructed. Copy supplied effects, sounds or gauges only to the FSX folders named in the documentation. Keep a backup before replacing any shared file.
- Restart FSX and clear selection filters. Search under Boeing and display all aircraft variations so an unfamiliar title or airline entry is not hidden.
What causes a black cockpit or missing gauges?
A black cockpit usually means the panel files are incomplete, a gauge was not installed, or the panel aliases an aircraft that is missing. Preserve the package's folder structure and install supplied gauge files only when its documentation requires them.
FSX may ask whether to trust a legacy gauge when the aircraft first loads. Approve it only when the file was expected as part of the package; if an old gauge is incompatible, the exterior aircraft may still load while parts of the panel remain blank.
