Flow wheel not visible in MSFS 2024: how do I fix it?

Ian Stephens
In short

Flow wheel not visible in MSFS 2024? Fix the package path, toolbar icon, UI scaling, shortcut bindings and add-on conflicts in order.

The Flow wheel is usually not visible in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 because Flow is outdated, installed in the MSFS 2020 Community folder, hidden from the in-flight toolbar or blocked by another package. Install the MSFS 2024-compatible build in the active package location, re-enable its toolbar icon, restart the simulator and test Flow alone.

Where should the Flow wheel appear?

Flow is an in-session add-on, so check it after an aircraft flight has fully loaded rather than on the main menu or world map. If Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was started in Safe Mode after a crash, restart normally because Safe Mode can intentionally suppress third-party packages.

How do I restore a missing Flow wheel?

  1. Load a normal flight and inspect the toolbar. Make sure Flow has not simply been unticked in the toolbar's customisation controls. Our explanation of showing hidden add-on icons and recovering off-screen toolbar panels covers this part in detail.
  2. Update Flow before changing anything else. Use the same installation or content channel from which you obtained Flow and select a build explicitly compatible with MSFS 2024. Shut down the simulator completely before updating; returning to the main menu is not enough for every package component to reload.
  3. Verify the MSFS 2024 package location. On PC, confirm that the installer is targeting the active MSFS 2024 Community or package location, not the separate MSFS 2020 folder. With a manually installed package, files such as manifest.json and layout.json must not be buried inside an unnecessary extra wrapper folder.
  4. Remove duplicate Flow copies. Keep one installation from one delivery channel. An older Community copy left beside a newer managed or in-simulator copy can cause MSFS to load the wrong package or reject both.
  5. Test Flow without other add-ons. On PC, move other Community packages to a temporary folder, leaving only Flow if that is where it is installed. Restart MSFS 2024 normally and test again. If the wheel returns, restore packages in small batches until the conflict reappears; our add-on compatibility and clean Community-folder checks explain the safest method.
  6. Reset the panel position and scaling. Return MSFS to the primary display, use a conventional resolution temporarily and reset altered UI scale or display safe-area settings. A wheel rendered beyond the visible area can look as though Flow has failed. These toolbar size, clipping and safe-area fixes also apply to Flow panels.
  7. Test with the mouse before troubleshooting a shortcut. If the toolbar icon opens Flow, the package is working. Select the intended controls profile, clear duplicate assignments and reassign the Flow activation command. Focus and profile problems are covered in our MSFS 2024 controls troubleshooting.
  8. Reinstall only as the final step. Back up exported wheels or custom widgets, remove the existing Flow package, restart the computer and install one clean copy. Test the default wheel before restoring custom content. Reinstalling the whole simulator or deleting its entire Official package folder is unnecessary for a Flow-only fault.

On Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5, ignore Community-folder instructions: consoles cannot use a manually copied PC package. Flow must be available for that platform and installed through the simulator's supported content system; a PC installation cannot be sideloaded.

Why does Flow open from the toolbar but not its shortcut?

If the toolbar icon opens the wheel, Flow itself is installed and rendering correctly; the fault is in the activation binding or active controls profile. Remove duplicate assignments, check that the expected keyboard, mouse or controller profile is selected, and test both a press and a hold if Flow offers those activation behaviours.

A wheel that opens and immediately closes can also indicate a continuously firing button or axis. Disconnect extra controllers temporarily, then reconnect them one at a time rather than reinstalling Flow.

Why are custom Flow widgets missing?

If the default Flow wheel appears but one or more widgets do not, the core add-on is not the problem. Remove the last widget added, confirm that it supports MSFS 2024 and restore widgets individually.

Do not copy an entire MSFS 2020 widget collection into the MSFS 2024 installation and assume every item is compatible. One obsolete widget can prevent part of the wheel from loading even when Flow itself is healthy.
