Fix airports that are not clickable on the MSFS 2024 World Map by checking map focus, filters, controls, online data, packages and scenery conflicts.
If airports are visible but not clickable on the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024) World Map, search for one by ICAO and set it as the departure from the result. If that works, reset the map view, filters and input focus. If it fails, test default controls, online services, airport packages and scenery conflicts.
Is every airport affected, or only one?
The scope of the fault tells you where to look: all unresponsive airports usually indicate a World Map or input problem, while one affected airport points to missing or conflicting scenery.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Best first test |
|---|---|---|
| Every airport marker ignores clicks | Map focus, control profile or interface state | Start a new Free Flight plan and use a default input profile |
| Search works, but markers do not | Marker overlap, zoom level, filter or hit-area problem | Reset filters, zoom in and select the airport symbol |
| Only one airport cannot be selected | Missing package, entitlement or scenery conflict | Search its exact ICAO code and inspect installed content |
| The map also refuses to pan or zoom | Lost focus or competing controller input | Disconnect extra peripherals and test the primary pointer |
If airport selection fails alongside dragging, scrolling or zooming, follow our World Map focus and controller-conflict checks first.
How do I make MSFS 2024 airport markers clickable?
- Test in Free Flight. Clear the existing route and open a fresh Free Flight plan. Career missions and other activities can restrict which airports are valid, so they are not reliable places to diagnose general World Map selection.
- Search by ICAO code. Enter the airport’s four-letter ICAO identifier, select the correct result and choose the departure or arrival option. If this succeeds, the airport exists and the problem is limited to clicking its map marker.
- Reset the map presentation. Restore the World Map filters to their defaults and confirm that airports are enabled. Zoom in far enough to separate nearby or overlapping symbols, then target the airport icon rather than surrounding label text.
- Restore input focus. Close any open search panel, pop-up or aircraft-selection window, select an empty part of the map and try the marker again. If the session was resumed from suspension on Xbox or PlayStation, or left running for a long period on PC, quit MSFS 2024 fully and relaunch it.
- Remove competing controller input. Temporarily activate a default mouse or controller profile. On PC, unplug HOTAS units, pedals and additional gamepads, then reconnect them individually. A noisy axis or duplicate menu-navigation binding can repeatedly steal focus from the pointer.
- Check online world data. Confirm that the simulator is signed in and that its online functionality and streamed world data are enabled. If the map, search results and airport data all fail together, restart the simulator and network connection; a service-side interruption may simply require another attempt later.
- Rebuild the rolling cache. Delete and recreate the rolling cache through the simulator’s data settings if the map began misbehaving after a scenery installation or interrupted download. Restart MSFS 2024 before testing again.
What if only one airport cannot be selected?
A single unselectable airport is usually a content problem rather than a broken World Map. Search the exact ICAO code first; if it is absent or points to the wrong location, use our airport search, filter and entitlement checklist.
- Inspect the content library. Confirm that the airport package is owned, available and enabled. If other scenery is also missing, the missing-content recovery steps cover account entitlements, streamed packages and cache faults.
- Check World Update components. Some enhanced or handcrafted airports belong to optional regional packages. Install the relevant component using our MSFS 2024 World Update procedure, then restart the simulator.
- Test without replacement scenery. On PC, move airport add-ons out of the
Communityfolder temporarily. On consoles, disable the relevant add-on through the content library. A mistake we see constantly is leaving two versions of the same airport enabled, which can produce duplicate records, missing markers or unusable selection points. - Add scenery back in batches. If the default airport becomes selectable, restore add-ons gradually until the conflict returns. Keep only one package that replaces the airport’s runways, parking positions and navigation data.
Why does airport search work when the marker does not?
Search and marker selection use different parts of the World Map interface, so a successful ICAO search proves that the airport database is available even when the marker’s clickable area is obscured or the map has lost focus.
Using the search result to set the departure or arrival is a valid workaround. If the airport card opens but its route option is unavailable, clear the current flight plan and repeat the test in Free Flight; an activity restriction or an existing route state may be blocking the choice.
Should I reinstall MSFS 2024?
Do not reinstall MSFS 2024 until the default-control, cache and content tests have failed. A reinstall may leave cloud-synchronised profiles and conflicting add-ons intact, so it often does not correct an input or airport-package problem.
On PC, verify or repair the simulator through the platform that installed it. On Xbox or PlayStation, install pending simulator and system updates, perform a full restart and check available storage. Treat an operating-system reset or complete simulator reinstall as the final step because locally downloaded packages and customised settings may need to be restored afterwards.
