Find the FlightControlReplay file location in MSFS 2024, including saved replay tracks, program files, video exports and OneDrive redirects.
FlightControlReplay replays are not stored inside Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. They are standalone FlightControlReplay files, normally saved in the Windows folder chosen in its Save dialogue—often a FlightControlReplay folder under Documents, or the last folder used. Open Load Replay in FlightControlReplay to reveal the active location.
What is the default FlightControlReplay save folder?
The common default location is C:\Users\<Windows-user>\Documents\FlightControlReplay, but this is not a guaranteed fixed path. FlightControlReplay may instead reopen the last folder used for saving, and different releases can handle their working folders differently.
If Windows redirects Documents through OneDrive, check C:\Users\<Windows-user>\OneDrive\Documents\FlightControlReplay. The folder may appear simply as Documents in the save window even though its physical location is under OneDrive.
| File type | Expected location |
|---|---|
| Saved replay track | The folder selected in FlightControlReplay's Save or Save As dialogue |
| Unsaved recording | The active FlightControlReplay session; do not assume a permanent recovery file exists |
| Exported video | The destination selected during video export |
| Application files | The folder where FlightControlReplay was installed or extracted |
How do I find an existing FlightControlReplay replay?
The quickest method is to inspect the folder opened by FlightControlReplay itself.
- Start FlightControlReplay independently of MSFS 2024.
- Select Load or Open Replay. The exact label varies between releases.
- Read the Windows address bar. This normally shows the last replay folder used.
- Search by filename if necessary. Search This PC in File Explorer, then sort the results by date modified.
- Check the save destination. Open Save As without completing the save; the dialogue exposes the folder FlightControlReplay is prepared to use.
Enable File name extensions in File Explorer before renaming or moving a replay. Do not manually change the replay's extension, because that can prevent FlightControlReplay from recognising it. For the loading controls and playback workflow, follow our FlightControlReplay setup and playback instructions.
Why is the replay not in the MSFS 2024 folders?
FlightControlReplay operates as an external Windows application, so its recordings do not belong in the MSFS 2024 Community, Official, LocalCache or aircraft folders. Steam and Microsoft Store/Xbox app installations do not change that arrangement.
A common mistake is to search the simulator's Packages directory for replay data. Our reference for MSFS 2024 configuration and log folders explains what those locations actually contain.
A saved replay is also not the same as an MP4 or other playable video. The replay contains data that FlightControlReplay uses to reproduce the flight in the simulator; a video exists only after a separate capture or export. We explain that distinction in our guide to replay tracks and recorded flight videos.
Where are the FlightControlReplay program files?
The application files remain wherever FlightControlReplay was installed or extracted, which may be different from the replay folder. To locate them reliably, run the application, open Windows Task Manager, right-click the FlightControlReplay process and choose Open file location.
Do not use the application directory as your replay archive unless necessary. A dedicated folder under Documents is easier to back up and avoids write-permission problems associated with protected program directories.
Can saved replays be moved or backed up?
Saved FlightControlReplay tracks can be copied to another local folder or backup drive, then opened by browsing to their new location from Load Replay. Close the replay before moving it, preserve its filename extension, and keep related video exports separately because they are not embedded in the replay track.
If a copied replay opens but does not reproduce the flight correctly, check FlightControlReplay compatibility and the aircraft used for the recording rather than moving the file back into an MSFS folder. An unsaved recording, by contrast, should not be treated as recoverable after FlightControlReplay is closed.
