- Repaints and liveries: These usually contain textures only and require the exact base aircraft named by the author.

How can I tell whether an add-on works in FS2004?
The description should explicitly mention FS2004 or FS9; those names refer to the same simulator generation. Do not judge compatibility from the aircraft type, airport name or file extension alone.

Does an aircraft repaint include the aircraft?
A repaint normally includes only a texture folder and the configuration text needed to register it. You must already have the specified base model; owning a different version of the same aircraft is not enough because texture mapping, model folders and configuration entries can differ.
How do I install downloaded FS2004 add-ons?
Extract the archive, read its documentation and copy each component to the active FS2004 installation. Our FS2004 add-on installation walkthrough covers aircraft, scenery and the supporting files packages may include.
- Extract to a temporary folder. Do not try to run an aircraft or scenery package directly from its ZIP archive.
- Find the actual package folder. A flyable aircraft folder should directly contain
aircraft.cfg, normally alongside model, panel, sound and texture folders. - Follow the included instructions. Some aircraft also supply gauges or effects. Copy those only to the locations specified, and do not approve every overwrite without checking.
- Activate scenery separately. Preserve its scenery and texture subfolders, then add the correct parent folder through the FS2004 Scenery Library.
Why does a downloaded add-on not appear in FS2004?
Most missing add-ons result from an extra nested folder, an absent base model or files being copied into the wrong FS2004 installation.
- Nested aircraft folder: A structure such as
Aircraft\AddonName\AddonName\aircraft.cfgis one level too deep. The folder containingaircraft.cfgbelongs directly inside the simulator’sAircraftfolder. - Repaint without its base aircraft: Textures cannot appear in the aircraft menu without the required model and a valid
[fltsim.x]entry. - Unexpected menu name: FS2004 sorts the aircraft using metadata in
aircraft.cfg. Its displayed manufacturer or variation may differ from the download’s filename. - Wrong installation path: Multiple FS2004 installations and Windows VirtualStore redirection can leave files somewhere other than the copy of FS9 being launched.
- Inactive or conflicting scenery: Extracting scenery is not enough; it must be registered in the Scenery Library. Duplicate airport or AFCAD files can also produce misplaced runways, duplicate buildings or AI traffic problems.
If an aircraft appears but has a blank panel or missing effects, the main aircraft installation succeeded; its gauges, effects or other dependencies are missing. If scenery is active but unchanged, confirm the airport identifier, package compatibility and scenery priority before reinstalling it.
