Does an aircraft repaint include the aircraft?
A repaint normally does not include the aircraft unless the listing explicitly calls it a complete package. The mistake we see most often is installing a texture folder without the base model it was designed to fit.
The repaint’s texture= value must match its texture-folder suffix, its title= entry must be unique, and the supplied [fltsim.x] block must be added as instructed. A repaint for another model of the same aircraft type may produce missing textures or may not appear at all.
How can I tell whether an add-on works in FS2004?
The listing must explicitly mention FS2004 or FS9, which are two names for the same simulator generation.

A ZIP extension proves nothing about simulator compatibility. Aircraft, airports and airlines with identical names may have completely different packages for FS2004, FSX and modern MSFS.

- AFCAD or airport layout: This usually adjusts runways, taxiways, parking and AI routing. It is not necessarily a full visual scenery package.
- Mesh or landclass: These alter terrain shape or ground classification across a wider area and may overlap with regional packages.
- Environment replacement: This changes shared textures, lighting or objects across many locations, so conflicts can be broader than with a single airport.

Is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 itself a free download?

How do I install downloaded FS2004 aircraft and scenery?

- Extract to a temporary folder. This exposes any readme, nested folders and optional components before files are copied into FS2004.
- Locate the real aircraft folder. Its
aircraft.cfgshould end up at a path such asAircraft\AddonName\aircraft.cfg, notAircraft\AddonName\AddonName\aircraft.cfg. - Copy supporting files only as directed. Gauges and effects may need their respective FS2004 folders. Back up existing files and do not approve every overwrite automatically.
- Register scenery in the Scenery Library. Add the parent folder that contains the scenery and texture subfolders. Merely extracting it does not activate it.
Why does my downloaded add-on not appear in FS2004?
Missing add-ons are usually caused by an extra nested folder, a repaint without its base model, an inactive scenery area or files copied into the wrong FS2004 installation.
- Aircraft absent from the menu: Confirm that
aircraft.cfgis one folder belowAircraft. Also check the manufacturer, model and variation fields because the menu name may differ from the archive name. - Repaint missing: Verify the exact base model, the
[fltsim.x]entry, the uniquetitle=value and the texture-folder name. - Blank panel or missing effects: The main aircraft is installed, but gauges, effects, panel aliases or another dependency are absent or incompatible.
- Scenery unchanged: Confirm that the area is enabled in the Scenery Library and that you are visiting the airport identifier named in the documentation.
- Duplicate buildings or misplaced runways: Search your active scenery folders for another package or AFCAD covering the same airport, then disable one copy rather than stacking both.
- Wrong installation path: Check which
FS9.exeyour shortcut launches. With multiple installations, or when older tools are redirected by Windows VirtualStore, files may be written somewhere FS2004 never reads.
