This applies to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PS5 and PS5 Pro. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was never released for PlayStation, so instructions claiming to cover “MSFS 2020 on PS5” will not match your menus or controller presets.
How do I restore cockpit controls on PS5?
The fastest fix is to reset input focus first, then check the controller profile before changing aircraft settings.
- Close every overlay. Dismiss the pause menu, toolbar, search field and any open aircraft panel. External, showcase or free-camera modes can intercept input, so use these steps for getting back to the normal pilot cockpit view.
- Select the active DualSense profile. Open the Controls settings and select the controller being used. Temporarily switch to the supplied default preset. A controller can work perfectly in menus while its custom cockpit-action map is empty.
- Check the cockpit-cursor actions. Search the bindings by function and confirm that activating the cockpit cursor, moving it, performing the primary interaction and cancelling an interaction all have assignments. - Use the controller-friendly interaction mode. If the Cockpit Interaction System option is available, choose Lock for DualSense use. Legacy interaction expects mouse-like movement and dragging, which is awkward unless its actions have been deliberately mapped.
- Remove competing inputs. Disconnect any USB mouse, keyboard, flight stick or second controller temporarily. A constantly moving pointer or a duplicate select assignment can repeatedly steal cockpit focus.
- Test a known baseline. Load a default aircraft on a runway in a ready-to-fly state. If its switches work, the DualSense and simulator are functioning; the original aircraft, system state or add-on is the problem.

Why can I highlight a switch but not operate it?
If a control highlights, the camera and pointer are working; the failure is normally the action binding or the way that particular control must be manipulated.
Read the on-screen prompt rather than assuming every switch uses a simple press. Rotary controls may have separate push, inner-knob, outer-knob, increase and decrease zones. Guarded switches require the guard to be opened first, while some levers require the interaction action to be held as the controller is moved.

Do I need a mouse or flight stick on PS5?
No; the DualSense can operate the virtual cockpit without a mouse or flight stick.
If a recognised mouse can operate the same switch while the DualSense cannot, that is strong evidence of a controller-profile or interaction-mode problem. If neither device can operate it, suspect camera focus, aircraft state or the aircraft itself.
A flight stick does not automatically provide cockpit-pointer controls, and PC- or Xbox-only hardware may not be recognised by the PlayStation edition. Check which controllers and flight peripherals MSFS 2024 accepts on PS5 before treating unsupported hardware as a simulator fault.
Why does it happen in only one aircraft?
A problem limited to one aircraft is usually not a PS5 controller failure.
