Find the correct MSFS 2024 installation and Community folder paths for SimApp Pro, including Steam, Xbox app and custom-drive fixes.
In SimApp Pro, set the MSFS 2024 installation path to the PC folder containing FlightSimulator2024.exe, and set the Community path to the active Community folder beneath the location named by InstalledPackagesPath in UserCfg.opt. Do not use the Official, StreamedPackages, or MSFS 2020 folders.
Which folder goes in each SimApp Pro field?
The installation field and Community field must not contain the same path. SimApp Pro releases may call the first field Installation Path, Game Path or similar, but the distinction remains the same.
| SimApp Pro field | Select this | Do not select |
|---|---|---|
| Installation or game path | The folder containing FlightSimulator2024.exe. If the picker requests a file rather than a folder, select that executable. | A desktop shortcut, the Packages folder, or the protected WindowsApps parent folder. |
| Community folder | The active Community directory directly beneath the path recorded in InstalledPackagesPath. | The Packages parent, Official, StreamedPackages, an add-on archive, or an MSFS 2020 Community folder. |
The application location depends on the store, drive and choices made during installation. Our guide to identifying the MSFS 2024 executable and install folder covers the platform-specific locations without confusing them with the simulator's content folders.
How do I find and enter both MSFS 2024 paths?
Use the game launcher to reveal the application folder, then use UserCfg.opt to identify the active Community folder.
- Close Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Also close SimApp Pro before changing or moving any files.
- Find the application folder. In Steam, open the simulator's installed-files or management options and use the command that browses local files. In the Xbox app, open the simulator's management or installation options and browse its installed files. The folder that opens should contain
FlightSimulator2024.exe. - Locate UserCfg.opt. Paste the appropriate path from the table below into File Explorer's address bar. Environment variables such as
%APPDATA%work even whenAppDatais hidden. - Read InstalledPackagesPath. Open
UserCfg.optin a text editor and find theInstalledPackagesPathentry near the end. Do not edit it merely to satisfy SimApp Pro. - Open the recorded content path. Select its immediate
Communitysubfolder. For example, if the recorded value isD:\MSFS2024 Packages, the required path isD:\MSFS2024 Packages\Community; do not add anotherPackageslevel. - Enter the paths in SimApp Pro. Open its MSFS 2024 game configuration, put the executable's folder in the installation field and the active Community folder in the Community field, then save or apply the configuration.
- Check the result. If SimApp Pro installs a connector or bridge package, it should appear as a package folder inside
Community, not as a second nestedCommunity\Communitydirectory.
Where is UserCfg.opt for Steam and the Xbox app?
UserCfg.opt is normally stored in the following profile location, although the packages it points to may be on any drive.
| PC edition | Usual UserCfg.opt path |
|---|---|
| Steam | %APPDATA%\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\UserCfg.opt |
| Xbox app or Microsoft Store | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\UserCfg.opt |
The common default Community locations are consequently %APPDATA%\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Packages\Community for Steam and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community for the Xbox app edition. Treat these as defaults, not proof: InstalledPackagesPath is authoritative after a custom installation or content move. See our platform-specific UserCfg.opt location and InstalledPackagesPath notes if the file is not where expected.
Why does SimApp Pro reject the path or fail to connect?
Most SimApp Pro path errors come from selecting the wrong folder level or an inactive Community directory.
- Invalid installation path: select the directory containing the executable, not the drive root, a launcher shortcut or the Packages directory.
- Files install but nothing appears in the simulator: recheck the current
InstalledPackagesPath. A mistake we see constantly is selecting the similarly named MSFS 2020 Community folder. - Community folder is missing: run MSFS 2024 through its initial setup once, close it, and check again. If necessary, create a folder named exactly
Communitydirectly beneath the verified packages path. Our steps for verifying or rebuilding the active Community folder cover this case. - Access denied: do not point SimApp Pro at the protected
WindowsAppsparent. Confirm that your Windows account can write to the chosen Community folder, and avoid running only one of SimApp Pro or the simulator with elevated privileges. - Package is nested twice: the add-on's manifest should not be buried inside duplicate package directories. SimApp Pro itself does not belong in Community; only the integration package it deploys goes there.
What if my packages are on another drive?
A custom drive is valid; SimApp Pro should use the active paths rather than assumed C-drive defaults. If an add-on linker or directory junction is involved, choose the Community landing folder used by MSFS 2024 and make sure its target exists and is writable.
When both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 are installed, inspect the UserCfg.opt belonging specifically to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. If you later move the packages, repeat the check because SimApp Pro may retain the old Community path.
Can SimApp Pro use these paths on Xbox or PlayStation?
No. This configuration requires the Windows version of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 because consoles do not expose an application path or writable Community folder to SimApp Pro. The Xbox app instructions above refer to the PC edition installed through the Xbox app, not an Xbox Series X|S console.
