Instrument coverage at Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor’s chart set is weighted heavily towards departures: 14 departure procedures sit alongside just two instrument approaches. Both approaches are RNAV (GPS), and together they serve two of the airport’s four runway ends, leaving the other two without a published approach. Arrivals therefore have a narrow, satellite-based set of procedures rather than a varied mix of approach types.

Runways and surrounding coverage

The 3,505 ft concrete runway is the only paved strip; the 2,750 ft turf runway provides a second alignment but not equivalent length or surface. Aircraft needing more than 3,505 ft cannot use either runway on length alone, while those requiring pavement are confined to 06/24. Willow Run and Custer have comparably broad chart sets, Detroit Metro is much broader, and Canton-Plymouth-Mettetal and Oakland Southwest are much thinner. The Detroit sectional, terminal area and helicopter route sheets add visual planning context beyond the instrument procedures.
