Approach and runway coverage

Bob Hope’s two runways provide four ends, but published approaches serve only two. The mix of two ILS, two RNAV (GPS), one VOR and two localiser options gives varied instrument coverage while concentrating it in particular directions. Runway 15/33 provides 1,084 ft more length than 08/26, a material difference where an aircraft’s required runway length approaches the shorter runway’s 5,802 ft.

Surrounding chart coverage

Van Nuys and Santa Monica Municipal have chart sets of broadly similar depth, while Whiteman’s coverage is much thinner. Los Angeles International is substantially more extensively charted, with Hawthorne Municipal between those extremes. The Los Angeles Sectional adds broader VFR context, while the Los Angeles Terminal Area Chart provides more focused visual and surrounding-airspace detail than the runway-specific instrument procedures.
