Van Nuys has two parallel runways but published approaches serve only one of their four ends. The five approach charts include ILS and VOR procedures, so instrument coverage offers more than one guidance type while remaining concentrated on a single arrival direction. The 8,001 ft runway is almost twice the length of the 4,013 ft parallel runway, giving the field two markedly different runway-length envelopes rather than equivalent strips.
Bob Hope and Santa Monica Municipal have chart sets broadly comparable in scale to Van Nuys, while Whiteman’s coverage is much thinner. Los Angeles International is substantially more extensively charted, with Hawthorne between those extremes. For visual planning, the Los Angeles Sectional supplies the wider regional picture and the Los Angeles Terminal Area Chart provides a more focused depiction around the airport.
