This versatile package provides a modern widebody jet for virtual pilots seeking a Canadian-inspired long-haul experience. It includes a meticulously modeled Boeing 777-200LR in WestJet colors, complete with the base freeware model and enhancements. The combination of aerodynamic refinements and custom textures ensures an accurate and stable simulation, making it ideal for extended flights.

Overview of the Aircraft

The Boeing 777-200LR (Long Range) is a twin-engine airliner engineered for long-distance routes, equipped with a higher fuel capacity and advanced wing design [wing design refers to aerodynamic shaping and materials used to reduce drag]. While WestJet primarily operates other aircraft types, this livery channels the airline’s distinct branding elements into the virtual skies. The resulting blend of performance and visual detail appeals to enthusiasts wanting to recreate transcontinental or transoceanic missions with a Canadian twist.

Development and Upgrades

This flight model was originally created by Meljet, renowned for accurately capturing Boeing aircraft characteristics in simulation. Additional updates and refinements, including cockpit alignment and texture corrections, were provided by David Grindele. Their combined efforts resulted in a faithful representation of the aircraft’s flight dynamics, avionics displays, and exterior presentation that aligns with the airline’s visual identity.

Technical Characteristics

The aircraft comes with a comprehensive panel, high-resolution fuselage textures, and a virtual cockpit that integrates essential flight instrumentation. Fuel efficiency has been modeled to reflect the extended-range capabilities typically associated with this variant. Moreover, the twin-engine setup has been tweaked to simulate realistic thrust and engine performance parameters, which is particularly important during climb and cruise phases.

Testing and Compatibility

Although this freeware package was primarily tested in FSX, it has demonstrated stability using operating systems ranging from Windows XP through Windows 7 (32-bit editions). At the time of release, no significant incompatibilities or runtime issues were reported. The entire folder set was scanned for malicious files and found to be free from viruses and malware, allowing simmers to install and run with confidence.

Important Notices

As with any third-party mod, it is recommended to create backups of core simulator files prior to installation. While every effort has been made to verify the add-on’s safety and reliability, the FSLightman will not be held responsible for any computer malfunctions or unexpected crashes. Users assume all risk when installing and using third-party enhancements, so it is best practice to maintain backups and follow careful procedures during setup.

Overall, this package offers a balanced combination of realistic flight dynamics and a unique Canadian livery. It stands as a complete freeware addition for those seeking a distinctive widebody airliner for long-range operations in the simulator environment.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
