Download and install the Horizon Simulations Boeing 787-9 in MSFS 2024, check the required 787-10 dependency, and fix Community-folder errors.
On PC, download the latest MSFS 2024-compatible Horizon Simulations Boeing 787-9 package from the project’s official release channel, then use its installer or extract the package into MSFS 2024’s active Community folder. The add-on is not standalone: the Microsoft/Asobo Boeing 787-10 dependency must be owned, installed and working first.
What does the Horizon 787-9 require?
The Horizon Simulations 787-9 relies on systems and assets from the Microsoft/Asobo 787-10. Installing the Horizon package does not unlock that base aircraft, so confirm that the 787-10 appears in your aircraft library and loads into a flight before proceeding.
If you are unsure which aircraft or entitlement you have, see our explanation of which 787 variants and dependencies are available in MSFS 2024. A working 787-10 is a better test than simply seeing its package listed in the simulator’s content library.
Use a Horizon release explicitly described as compatible with MSFS 2024. An older MSFS 2020 package may be detected by the newer simulator yet still suffer from broken avionics, textures or configuration files.
How do you install the Horizon 787-9 on PC?
- Close Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Do not install or replace the aircraft while the simulator is running.
- Download the official package. Use Horizon Simulations’ official release package or installer and choose a build marked for MSFS 2024. If a mirror or repack has unclear compatibility, follow our guidance for checking freeware aircraft compatibility and package safety.
- Install the required 787-10. Use the simulator’s library or content-management system to install any 787-10 content belonging to your account, then verify that the base aircraft loads correctly.
- Choose the MSFS 2024 location. If Horizon supplies an installer, select MSFS 2024 and check the detected Community path carefully. Installers can retain an old MSFS 2020 path when both simulators are present.
- Extract manual downloads. Do not place the ZIP or other archive directly in Community. Extract it until you reach one or more package folders containing
manifest.jsonandlayout.json, then copy those complete folders into the active Community folder. - Check the folder depth. A package should resemble
Community\package-folder\manifest.json, notCommunity\download-wrapper\package-folder\manifest.json. That extra wrapper folder is a common reason aircraft fail to appear. - Start MSFS 2024 and find the aircraft. Search the aircraft selector for Boeing, 787-9 or Horizon. Test the unmodified aircraft before adding third-party liveries.
Never copy the package into the simulator application directory, the Official content folder or an individual 787-10 aircraft directory. If the correct Community location is unclear, use our instructions to identify the active MSFS 2024 Community folder.
Why does the Horizon 787-9 not appear or work?
A missing Horizon 787-9 is usually caused by the wrong Community folder, excessive folder nesting, a missing 787-10 dependency or two conflicting versions of the add-on.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The 787-9 is absent from the aircraft selector | Wrong Community folder, unextracted archive or an extra wrapper folder | Confirm the active MSFS 2024 path and place each package folder directly inside Community. |
| The aircraft appears but will not load correctly | The required 787-10 is missing, disabled or not working | Install or update the base 787-10 and test it separately before reinstalling Horizon. |
| Displays remain blank during a powered runway start | Dependency failure, incompatible build or conflicting older package | Remove old Horizon copies, confirm 2024 compatibility and reinstall one clean version. |
| The exterior or cabin is pink or chequered | An incompatible livery, missing texture dependency or duplicate package | Remove all added liveries, test the default Horizon paint and reinstall any matching livery packages individually. |
| An installer reports success but nothing appears | It installed into an MSFS 2020 or inactive Community folder | Open the installer settings, correct the destination and install again. |
When troubleshooting, leave only the Horizon aircraft and its required base content enabled. Once it loads correctly, restore other add-ons in small groups; this exposes duplicate aircraft packages and outdated liveries without disturbing Official content.
Which liveries work with the Horizon 787-9?
Use liveries made specifically for the Horizon Simulations 787-9 and confirmed for the installed aircraft version. A 787-10 livery, or one built for a different 787-9 model, can produce missing textures even when its folder installs normally. Our guide to finding and matching Boeing 787 liveries for MSFS 2024 covers the variant checks to make before downloading.
Can you install the Horizon 787-9 on Xbox or PlayStation?
You cannot sideload the PC Horizon 787-9 package on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro. Consoles do not expose a user-accessible Community folder, so the aircraft would need an authorised console-compatible release delivered through the simulator’s own Marketplace or library. A downloaded Windows package cannot be copied or converted for console use.
