Install SimBrief Downloader for MSFS 2024 on PC, set export folders correctly, avoid the Community-folder mistake and fix missing flight plans.
To install SimBrief Downloader for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, download the Windows installer from the Downloads area of your SimBrief account, run it as a normal desktop application, connect your account, then select the required export formats and folders. Never copy the program into the MSFS 2024 Community folder.
Do you need SimBrief Downloader for MSFS 2024?
The native MSFS 2024 EFB does not require SimBrief Downloader. It can retrieve a flight plan after you connect your SimBrief identity; our MSFS 2024 EFB import instructions cover that simpler workflow.
Install the Downloader when you need automatic local exports, such as a .pln file or an aircraft-specific flight-plan format. It is a companion utility, not an aircraft, scenery package or route planner.
How do you install SimBrief Downloader on PC?
Install SimBrief Downloader as an ordinary Windows application outside Microsoft Flight Simulator.
- Obtain the official package. Sign in to your SimBrief account and open its Downloads area. Our SimBrief desktop utility download guidance explains where to find it and how it differs from an MSFS add-on.
- Run the installer. Open the downloaded setup package and accept a normal application location. If Windows displays a security warning, verify that the file came from your account area rather than disabling system protection.
- Launch the Downloader. Connect or authorise the same SimBrief account that you use to create operational flight plans.
- Enable the required formats. Choose the dedicated MSFS 2024 option if your Downloader build provides one. For an ordinary simulator flight plan, select the Microsoft Flight Simulator
.plnformat. Third-party aircraft may require another format or may import directly from your SimBrief identity. - Set each export folder. Use an automatically detected destination when it matches the receiving application. Otherwise, browse to the exact folder required by that aircraft or utility.
- Test the export. Leave Downloader running, generate a fresh SimBrief OFP and confirm that a new file appears in the selected destination.
MSFS 2024 does not need to be running while you install Downloader or configure its basic file exports.
Which MSFS 2024 export folder should you choose?
There is no single universal SimBrief Downloader folder for MSFS 2024; the correct destination depends on how the plan will be used.
| Workflow | Correct destination |
|---|---|
| Native MSFS 2024 EFB import | No local export folder is required. |
Manually loading a standard .pln file | A user-accessible folder that you can find from the simulator's file picker. |
| Third-party aircraft or avionics | The precise route folder and file format specified by that add-on, or no folder if it imports online. |
The mistake we see constantly is treating Downloader like a scenery mod. Its installation directory and export directories are separate, and neither the application nor ordinary flight-plan files belong in the root of the Community folder.
How do you use Downloader after installing it?
Keep Downloader running when you generate or update an OFP, then verify that it writes the enabled formats to their assigned folders. Regenerate the plan after changing an export setting so that you are testing a new file rather than an older copy.
Downloader does not create the route itself. Follow our SimBrief flight-plan creation and MSFS workflow for generating the OFP and choosing how to load it into the simulator or aircraft.
Why is SimBrief Downloader not exporting a flight plan?
Missing exports usually come down to a stale OFP, a disabled format, the wrong account or an unwritable destination.
- No file appears: check that Downloader is open, the required format is enabled and a fresh OFP has been generated.
- The wrong route appears: confirm that Downloader and the planner use the same SimBrief account or identity.
- An access error appears: choose a normal user-writable folder instead of a protected application directory. Changing the destination is preferable to running the utility permanently as administrator.
- The file exists but the aircraft cannot see it: verify both the extension and the aircraft-specific route folder. Some aircraft ignore local files because they use online SimBrief import instead.
- MSFS is installed on another drive: this does not prevent Downloader from working. Only the selected export destination needs to be valid.
Can you install SimBrief Downloader on Xbox or PlayStation?
No. Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro cannot install the Windows SimBrief Downloader application. Console users should use MSFS 2024's native EFB and any supported in-aircraft SimBrief import rather than local file exports.
