Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 supports PS VR2 via a free PS5 update. See timing, requirements and fixes when the headset is not detected.
Yes. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 supports PlayStation VR2 on PS5 and PS5 Pro through a free 2026 update; it was not part of the PS5 launch build released on 8 December 2025. The original Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) has no PlayStation version and therefore no native PSVR2 mode.
When does the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PSVR2 update arrive?
Microsoft confirmed PSVR2 as a free post-launch update for 2026, rather than a separate VR edition or paid add-on. No more precise release date should be assumed unless it appears in the update notes supplied with the game.
The important distinction is that the PS5 edition can exist on your console without the VR feature being present in that particular build. Install the latest update and check that PSVR2 support is listed before treating a missing VR option as a hardware fault. Our explanation of which Flight Simulator release runs on PS5 also covers the difference between MSFS 2024 and the PC-and-Xbox-only 2020 simulator.
What do you need to play MSFS 2024 in PS VR2?
The native console mode requires the PS5 version of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the free VR-enabling game update and a PSVR2 headset recognised by the console.
- A PS5 or PS5 Pro: PSVR2 support is not restricted to the Pro console.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for PS5: MSFS 2020 cannot be used as a substitute because it was never released for PlayStation.
- The PSVR2 update: owning the launch version alone does not guarantee that the installed build contains VR support.
- A configured PSVR2 headset: connect it directly to the console and complete PlayStation's headset, tracking and play-area setup.
- A supported flight input: the headset provides the view and head tracking, but it does not make a PC-only yoke, throttle or HOTAS compatible with PS5. DualSense and console-compatible flight controls remain the safe choices.
The original PS VR headset, its processor box and PlayStation Camera are not substitutes for PSVR2.
How do you fix PSVR2 not working in MSFS 2024?
A missing VR option most often means that the required game update is absent, the game was left suspended while the headset was connected, or PS5 has not completed the headset setup.
- Confirm the update is available: verify that the release notes for your installed build explicitly mention PSVR2. A generic 2026 build is not necessarily the VR-enabling update.
- Update the game: highlight Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on the PS5 home screen, open the Options menu and choose
Check for Update. - Update the console: install pending PS5 system software before testing the headset again.
- Connect PSVR2 first: make sure PS5 recognises the headset at system level, then close Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 fully and relaunch it. Do not rely on a suspended session to detect newly connected hardware.
- Repeat PSVR2 setup: recalibrate tracking and the play area if the image appears but head movement, positioning or the cockpit view behaves incorrectly.
- Restart before reinstalling: power down the headset and console, reconnect the headset directly, then start again. Reinstalling the large simulator should be a last resort and cannot add a feature that has not reached the installed build.
Is PSVR2 support native on PS5?
Yes. The PS5 implementation is native PSVR2 support and does not require the PSVR2 PC adapter or a gaming computer. Using the same headset with the PC edition is a separate PC-VR setup with its own hardware, runtime and connection requirements.
For the distinction between native console VR and PC headset support, see our guide to VR headsets compatible with MSFS 2024 and 2020.
Does Xbox support the same VR mode?
No. Xbox Series X|S has no supported VR mode for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, so PSVR2 is a genuine PS5 platform difference rather than a feature shared across the console editions. We cover that and the other practical differences between PS5 and Xbox separately.
