How do you restart Career Mode in MSFS 2024?

Ian Stephens
In short

Restart MSFS 2024 Career Mode safely: find Reset Career, see what it deletes, and avoid wiping progress when you only need to replay a mission.

To restart Career Mode in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, return to Career Headquarters, open the career profile or settings menu, select Reset Career, and confirm the permanent deletion. This creates a fresh career; it does not simply replay a mission, and deleted credits, certifications, reputation, companies, owned aircraft and unlocks cannot be recovered.

How do I reset my MSFS 2024 career?

Use the dedicated Career Mode reset command rather than deleting simulator data through Windows or your console.

  1. Return to Career Headquarters. Finish or leave any active mission and continue past its debriefing screen.
  2. Open your career profile or settings. From Headquarters, select the control associated with your pilot profile, portrait or career settings; its position can vary with platform and screen layout.
  3. Select Reset Career. Check that the confirmation specifically refers to Career progress.
  4. Confirm the deletion. Some controller interfaces require the confirmation control to be held rather than tapped.
  5. Allow the reset to synchronise. Do not close the simulator while it is processing. Opening Career Mode again should present the new-career setup.

A career reset is a destructive action, not a way to load an earlier save. Our breakdown of Career Mode progression explains how its credits, certifications, companies and aircraft are tied together.

What does Reset Career delete?

Reset Career removes the progression attached to that career profile. Expect to lose:

  • Career credits and reputation
  • Certifications, specialisations and mission unlocks
  • Companies, owned aircraft and associated business progress
  • Completed career activities and overall career advancement

It is not intended to uninstall aircraft, remove purchased content or reset global graphics and controller settings. There is no supported undo command, and cloud synchronisation should not be treated as a backup because it may synchronise the deletion as well.

Do you need to restart the whole career?

Choose the reset option according to what you are actually trying to fix; many problems do not require deleting the career.

Your aimUse this optionEffect
Replay a failed missionRestart or retry the activityKeeps the rest of your career
Recover a stuck or crashed aircraftRestart Flight or the activity-specific resetResets that flight rather than your profile
Fix crashing or loading errorsTroubleshoot the simulator firstAvoids unnecessary progress loss
Begin again from zeroReset CareerPermanently erases Career progress

If only the aircraft or current activity needs restarting, use the separate procedure for resetting or repositioning an aircraft without wiping Career Mode.

What if Reset Career is missing or does not work?

The reset control may be unavailable while a mission, briefing or debrief is still active. Return fully to Career Headquarters, check that the simulator is signed in and online, then reopen Career Mode or restart the simulator once.

Do not substitute the operating system's app reset, console storage deletion or cloud-save removal. Those actions affect different data and can create a larger problem; see our explanation of repairing or resetting the MSFS 2024 application before using them. If crashes are preventing access to Headquarters, try the safer Career Mode crash fixes before deleting any progress.
