Why is my TCA Boeing yoke or throttle not working?

A Thrustmaster TCA Boeing yoke or throttle quadrant usually stops working because the computer cannot see it, the PC/Xbox connection is wrong, or the simulator has an empty or conflicting control profile. Test the device outside the simulator first, then create a clean profile and bind each axis manually.

This diagnostic order applies to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, X-Plane, Prepar3D, FSX and DCS. The exact command names differ, but the dividing line between a USB fault and a simulator configuration fault is the same.

How do I tell whether the hardware or simulator is at fault?

If the axes and buttons respond in the operating system's controller panel, the TCA hardware and USB connection are working; the fault is inside the simulator's profile, calibration or aircraft configuration.

Fix the TCA Boeing controls in this order

The reliable approach is to prove each stage before changing simulator settings.

  1. Close the simulator and reconnect the hardware. On a PC, connect the yoke and independently used quadrant directly to USB rather than through an unpowered hub, extension or monitor. Try another data-capable USB port and restart the computer after reconnecting.
  2. Check the platform connection. Use PC mode when a platform selector is fitted. On Xbox, connect the TCA Quadrant Boeing Edition through the compatible TCA Yoke Boeing Edition as specified for console use; plugging the quadrant into the console as an independent controller may leave it undetected.
  3. Test it outside the simulator. Press Win+R, enter joy.cpl, open the device's Properties page and move every axis. Our Windows controller detection procedure explains how to separate a USB fault from a binding problem. When connected independently, the yoke and quadrant may appear as separate controllers.
  4. Install the correct Boeing support package and firmware. Use the package intended for the TCA Yoke Boeing Edition or TCA Quadrant Boeing Edition, not an Airbus TCA package. Connect directly during a firmware update and do not unplug the control until the updater has finished.
  5. Avoid unnecessary Windows calibration. These controls have their own calibration behaviour. Use the manufacturer-prescribed reset procedure and the simulator's calibration or sensitivity controls; do not press the legacy Windows Calibrate button unless the device instructions specifically require it.
  6. Create a fresh simulator profile. Select the actual TCA Boeing device, expose all available commands, and start with an empty or clean preset. A common mistake we see is editing the keyboard, gamepad or another Thrustmaster profile while assuming the yoke is selected.
  7. Remove duplicate axes. Disconnect other controllers temporarily, then search for every aileron, elevator and throttle assignment. In Microsoft Flight Simulator, use our procedure to clear duplicated and ghost controller bindings if several presets have become tangled.

If Windows never detects the device after direct connection, a second USB port and a restart, test it on another PC if available. Failure on two computers points to the cable, connector or hardware rather than the flight simulator.

Which TCA Boeing axes should I assign?

Bind the yoke to analogue flight-control axes and the quadrant levers to analogue throttle, flap or spoiler axes; do not assign a moving lever to an incremental button command.

  • Yoke left and right: aileron or roll axis.
  • Yoke forward and back: elevator or pitch axis.
  • Throttle levers: one combined throttle axis, or separate engine-one and engine-two throttle axes for a twin-engine aircraft.
  • Flap and speed-brake levers: their corresponding analogue axes when the aircraft and simulator expose them.
  • Reverse levers and detent switches: bind these as buttons if the controller test shows only an on/off response. Do not force them onto an analogue axis unless the simulator actually reports progressive movement.

After each assignment, watch the simulator's input indicator. It should move smoothly through the full range and return to centre where appropriate. Reverse the axis in the simulator if movement is backwards; do not solve a reversed axis with an extreme sensitivity curve.

Why does the control move in settings but not in the aircraft?

Movement in the controls screen proves that the simulator receives the input, so the remaining problem is normally the assigned command, an aircraft system or another input overriding it.

  • Autothrottle or autopilot: an engaged automation mode may command the virtual control instead of following the physical lever. Disconnect the relevant mode for testing.
  • Wrong engine assignment: a lever bound only to engine one will appear ineffective on another engine. Use a combined throttle for simple aircraft or map each engine deliberately.
  • Aircraft-specific calibration: some complex add-on aircraft provide their own tablet or cockpit calibration for idle, detents and reverse thrust. Complete that after assigning the standard simulator axis.
  • Assistance overriding input: AI piloting, assisted take-off or other control assistance can countermand the yoke or throttle.
  • Aircraft systems unavailable: hydraulic power, control locks and engine state can prevent the simulated surface or thrust response even though the physical axis is recognised.
  • Reverse input held active: an incorrectly assigned reverse switch can keep the throttle in reverse or stop it crossing idle.

Does the TCA Boeing work on Xbox or PlayStation?

The TCA Boeing range is designed for compatible Xbox consoles and Windows PCs, but console operation depends on the approved connection through the yoke and support within the simulator.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is also available on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, but that does not make an Xbox/PC TCA Boeing controller PlayStation-compatible. Unless the exact hardware revision explicitly lists PS5 support, assume it will not work there. Firmware updates and detailed controller tests also require a Windows PC.
