How do I use PSVR2 with MSFS 2024 on PC?

Ian Stephens
In short

Use PSVR2 with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PC: connect the adapter, configure SteamVR/OpenXR, enter VR and fix detection or black-screen faults.

To use PSVR2 with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PC, connect the headset through the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, install SteamVR and the PlayStation VR2 App, make SteamVR the active OpenXR runtime, complete headset setup, launch the simulator in 2D, then switch to VR using the assigned Toggle VR Mode control.

What do I need to connect PSVR2 to a PC?

PSVR2 requires the official PC adapter and a suitable DisplayPort connection; plugging the headset directly into an ordinary USB-C port is not the supported PC setup.

  • A PlayStation VR2 headset and its Sense controllers
  • The PlayStation VR2 PC adapter and its power supply
  • A separate DisplayPort 1.4 cable
  • A USB 3 port and Bluetooth for the Sense controllers
  • SteamVR and the PlayStation VR2 App
  • A yoke, joystick or HOTAS, plus a mouse and keyboard for dependable cockpit control

Connect DisplayPort to the discrete graphics card, not the motherboard video output. A laptop USB-C port can work only when it carries a suitable DisplayPort signal from the discrete GPU; an ordinary USB-C port or an HDMI converter is not equivalent.

The adapter does not expose every PS5 feature on PC. Eye tracking, HDR, headset feedback and the full adaptive-trigger and haptic feature set are unavailable, so MSFS 2024 cannot use PSVR2 eye tracking for eye-tracked foveated rendering through this route. Our PSVR2 compatibility and PC hardware breakdown covers these limitations alongside other headsets.

How do I set up PSVR2 for MSFS 2024?

  1. Install the headset software. Install SteamVR and the PlayStation VR2 App. You need SteamVR even when Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was installed through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store.
  2. Connect the PC adapter. Attach its power supply, run DisplayPort from the adapter to the graphics card, and connect its USB cable directly to a USB 3 port. Plug the headset’s USB-C lead into the adapter.
  3. Complete PSVR2 setup. Open the PlayStation VR2 App, pair both Sense controllers over Bluetooth, install any offered headset or controller firmware, and follow the camera and tracking checks.
  4. Define a seated play area. Scan the room as instructed and create a boundary that accommodates your chair and physical flight controls. Keep the headset cameras unobstructed.
  5. Select the OpenXR runtime. Open SteamVR settings, find the OpenXR section and make SteamVR the active OpenXR runtime. If SteamVR is already shown as the current runtime, leave it unchanged.
  6. Start the headset before the simulator. Power on PSVR2, launch SteamVR and wait until the headset and tracking indicators are ready. Launch MSFS 2024 normally and load a flight in 2D.
  7. Enter VR. Use the control assigned to Toggle VR Mode; the default keyboard assignment is normally Ctrl+Tab. If that does nothing, search the simulator’s control options for the command and assign it manually.
  8. Centre the cockpit view. Sit in your normal flying position and use the assigned Reset VR View command so the virtual eyepoint aligns with the seat and instrument panel.

Launching the Steam edition does not automatically place MSFS 2024 in VR. SteamVR supplies the OpenXR headset runtime, while the simulator’s Toggle VR Mode command controls when the view changes. Our full MSFS OpenXR and VR-control workflow explains recentering, menu interaction and binding the essential commands.

Do I need the PSVR2 Sense controllers while flying?

The Sense controllers are needed for initial pairing, room scanning and SteamVR setup, but they are not required for normal aircraft control once the headset is configured.

MSFS may expose motion-controller interaction through SteamVR, but mappings and cockpit usability can vary. We recommend a physical yoke, joystick or HOTAS for primary controls, with the mouse for switches, avionics and menus. Keep a keyboard command assigned to Toggle VR Mode and Reset VR View in case motion-controller input stops responding.

Why does MSFS 2024 not enter VR with PSVR2?

Most PSVR2 failures come from the DisplayPort connection, an incorrect OpenXR runtime, Bluetooth interference or launching MSFS before SteamVR has detected the headset.

SymptomLikely fix
The PSVR2 App cannot see the headsetCheck adapter power, connect USB directly rather than through a hub, and reseat the headset’s USB-C plug.
SteamVR opens but the headset remains darkConfirm the DisplayPort cable runs to the discrete graphics card and meets the adapter requirement. Do not substitute HDMI.
MSFS stays on the monitor after Toggle VR ModeMake SteamVR the active OpenXR runtime, give the simulator window focus and verify the Toggle VR Mode binding.
The display turns black when VR startsRestart the headset, SteamVR and MSFS in that order. Temporarily disable third-party OpenXR API layers or overlays while testing.
A Sense controller repeatedly disconnectsAttach the PC’s Bluetooth antenna, reduce nearby wireless interference and remove and pair the controller again.
The cockpit is too high, low or offsetSit normally and invoke Reset VR View. If tracking drifts, improve room lighting and clean the headset’s tracking cameras.

For persistent OpenXR errors, missing bindings or blank displays, follow our focused VR detection and black-screen checks.

How should I tune PSVR2 performance?

Start at 90 Hz and moderate resolution rather than selecting 120 Hz and maximum scaling immediately. SteamVR’s 100% resolution is a compositor target that includes lens correction, so it may be higher than the headset panel’s quoted per-eye resolution.

Change one resolution control at a time. If the GPU is overloaded, reduce SteamVR’s per-application resolution or the simulator’s VR render scaling; if the main thread is limiting performance, reduce terrain and object detail. Clouds can also carry a heavy GPU cost. Our MSFS 2024 VR performance settings cover reprojection, VRAM pressure and stutter without duplicating the setup steps here.

Is PC PSVR2 support the same as PSVR2 on PS5?

No. The PC adapter and SteamVR route are separate from native PlayStation support. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched on PS5 and PS5 Pro on 8 December 2025, with PSVR2 support assigned to a free 2026 console update. That update does not remove the PC requirement for the adapter, SteamVR and an OpenXR connection.
