A departure-heavy procedure set

Houston/Southwest’s 24 departure procedures against three approaches make this a strongly outbound-weighted chart set. The approaches nevertheless serve both ends of the sole 09/27 runway: two use RNAV (GPS), while one uses a localiser. This provides published approach coverage from each runway direction, but a much narrower range of arrival procedures than departure routing. The single 5,002 ft strip also ties every approach to one east–west alignment.

Coverage around Houston

At 41 charts, coverage is close in breadth to Sugar Land Regional and West Houston. William P Hobby and Ellington have broader sets, while Pearland Regional is notably thinner. The Houston Sectional and Terminal Area Chart add wider VFR context, while the two helicopter-route charts provide a dedicated helicopter route picture absent from the instrument procedure collection.
