John Wayne/Orange County’s eight approaches serve only two runway ends, concentrating instrument arrivals rather than covering every available direction. The mix of two ILS, two localiser and four RNAV (GPS) procedures provides both precision and non-precision options. With 17 departure charts against eight approaches, the procedure set is notably weighted towards outbound routing.
The 5,700 ft 02L/20R is almost twice the length of parallel 02R/20L, so the two runways do not offer equivalent usable length. Among nearby fields, Long Beach has the only similarly broad chart collection; Los Alamitos, Fullerton, Corona and Chino have much thinner coverage. The Los Angeles sectional, terminal area and helicopter route charts add wider visual, terminal and helicopter-routing context beyond the airport-specific procedures.
