FSX DIA Bristol Britannia

Donaldson-themed textures give the Bristol Britannia a period-correct, airline-style finish with crisp markings, balanced colors, and a convincing mid-century prop-liner look in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The repaint targets Jens Kristensen’s Britannia and requires the BRT_V10X.ZIP base package for full functionality, including shared texture support.

This freeware repaint set brings a carefully detailed Donaldson-themed finish to the Bristol Britannia for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Originally crafted by Jens Kristensen, this classic prop-liner requires the separate BRT_V10X.ZIP package for proper functionality. Textures created by Gary Harper are included, and they highlight the distinctive design once sported by the Donaldson aviation group, emphasizing authentic markings and a balanced color layout.

Technical Notes on the Britannia

The Bristol Britannia, often celebrated as a mid-century turboprop airliner, remains renowned for its reliability during transatlantic services. It utilized turboprop engines to efficiently traverse long distances, and in many real-world operations, it was praised for its impressively quiet cabin environment. In this repaint, the fuselage graphics accurately reference the Donaldson style, ensuring the details reflect the historical flair of that period.

Key Installation Steps

  1. Open your aircraft’s configuration file and insert the block below. Remember to replace xx with the next available [fltsim.xx] index:

sound=
texture=Don
kb_checklists=
kb_reference=britannia_ref

  1. Copy the folder named texture.Don into your “JBK Britannia” directory, ensuring all repaint-related files are stored under that path.
  2. Then, copy the folder named texture.shared into your “JBK Britannia” directory as well. Allow it to overwrite the existing files to ensure all textures appear correctly.

Important Considerations

  • This repaint set is released under a freeware license. It is strictly for your personal use; commercial distribution is not permitted.
  • The core Bristol Britannia aircraft by Jens Kristensen, found in BRT_V10X.ZIP, must be installed prior to using these textures.
  • All credits for the livery artwork go to Gary Harper, while the original model attributes belong to Jens Kristensen.

Thank you for exploring this distinctive repaint and embracing the heritage of the Bristol Britannia in your virtual flights.

    After 14 Hrs of brbrbr YUL to AMS on a KLM DC7 C Seven Seas then a Super Conny to PIK to sit in the luxury of BOAC Bristol Britania, AKA The Whispering Giant for a mere 8 to 9 Hrs YUL - PIK non stop was an absolute delight. Mind you no movies, radio or such but a wee boy was given plastic wings and spent time in the cockpit. Myfirst view of the Netherlands was from the cockpit of a DC7 c as we broke through the clouds all I could see for miles was different coulored squares of tulips. Thanks KLM, BOAC, (British Airways) and T.C.A. (Air Canada) for making a little boy so happy.
