How do I fix pink Horizon 787 textures in MSFS 2024?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Fix pink Horizon 787 textures in MSFS 2024 by checking the required 787-10 base aircraft, Community folder and incompatible liveries.

Pink textures on the Horizon Simulations 787 in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 mean the aircraft cannot find one or more texture files. Install and enable the required Microsoft/Asobo 787-10 base package, reinstall the Horizon aircraft without nested folders, and remove incompatible 787-9 liveries. Graphics-quality settings will not repair missing texture references.

Why is the Horizon 787 pink?

The Horizon 787-9 is not a completely standalone aircraft: it depends on systems and assets from the Microsoft/Asobo Boeing 787-10. That base aircraft has historically been tied to a higher simulator edition, so the Horizon mod cannot replace a missing entitlement or base package.

In MSFS 2024, confirm that the official 787-10 appears in your simulator library and is enabled, installed or available for streaming. Our Horizon 787 dependency and variant notes explain this relationship in more detail.

Is the base aircraft or a livery causing the pink textures?

How do I repair the Horizon 787 installation?

  1. Test the official Boeing 787-10. Load it with its default livery. If it is missing from the aircraft selector or also has pink surfaces, repair or enable that official package before touching the Horizon mod. If your simulator ownership does not include the required 787-10 entitlement, reinstalling the mod will not solve the problem.
  2. Close MSFS 2024 completely. Do not replace aircraft files while the simulator is running; its virtual file system may retain the old package until the next launch.
  3. Remove old Horizon copies. Move the Horizon aircraft and all third-party Horizon liveries out of the Community folder. Check for duplicate versions, renamed backups and packages activated through symbolic links.
  4. Extract a clean, compatible package. Use a Horizon release intended to work with MSFS 2024 or explicitly supported by its developer. At the package root, you should normally see files such as manifest.json and layout.json; an extra enclosing folder indicates a nested installation.
  5. Test only the default Horizon livery. Start the simulator with the base 787-10 and clean Horizon package active, but leave every downloaded livery disabled. If the default paint works, the aircraft installation is sound.
  6. Restore liveries individually. A livery made for the Asobo 787-10, Kuro 787-8 or another 787-9 package is not interchangeable with the Horizon 787-9. Our checks for mismatched variants and nested livery folders cover the usual installation mistakes.

What if the Horizon 787 remains pink?

If the default Horizon livery is still pink while the official 787-10 works, the Horizon package is incomplete, duplicated or incompatible with the installed simulator build. Remove it fully and make a clean installation; do not merge a new archive over an older release.

A mistake we see constantly is copying official 787-10 textures into the Horizon folders or editing texture.cfg aliases at random. That can hide one missing reference while breaking other liveries, and the repair will be lost during the next package update. Use the correct aircraft and livery versions instead.

If pink textures also affect unrelated aircraft, airports or buildings, the fault is no longer specific to Horizon. Work through our broader MSFS 2024 missing-texture checks, including package availability, streaming, cache and Community-folder isolation.

Can this be fixed on Xbox or PlayStation?

The Community-folder procedure applies to PC. Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 do not provide normal access to PC Community packages, so files and texture aliases cannot be repaired manually there. For any aircraft distributed through the simulator's own library, remove and reinstall that package through the library instead.
