Fix GSX not starting in Microsoft Flight Simulator by repairing Couatl, Community folder links, security blocks and missing toolbar icons.
GSX Pro usually fails to start in Microsoft Flight Simulator because its Couatl background engine is not running, security software has blocked a component, or its package links point to the wrong Community folder. Update GSX with the FSDT Installer, rebuild the links, allow Couatl, then restart Windows and the simulator.
GSX does not launch from the Microsoft Flight Simulator main menu. You must load a flight on a Windows PC before its panel becomes available through the in-flight toolbar. If the panel opens but no services can be selected, GSX has started; the problem is likely your parking position or aircraft state.
What does the GSX symptom mean?
The visible symptom usually identifies whether Couatl, the installation or the airport setup is at fault.

How do I get GSX Pro to start?
The fastest reliable fix is to repair GSX before deleting or reinstalling anything.
- Confirm the platform and simulator. GSX Pro requires the Windows version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. If both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 are installed, make sure the installer is updating the same simulator you are launching.
- Close all related processes. Exit Microsoft Flight Simulator, the FSDT Installer and any clearly identified Couatl process. Restart Windows if Couatl will not close normally.
- Update GSX. Open the FSDT Installer and run its update or check operation. This replaces missing components and updates Couatl. Our GSX update and package-link procedure covers the full installation check.
- Verify the active Community folder. GSX keeps its main files outside
Communityand places links inside it. Those links break when packages are moved or the installer detects a different MSFS installation. Do not manually copy the linked folders; have the installer recreate them. - Check security software. Review Windows Security Protection history and any third-party anti-virus quarantine for Couatl or GSX components. Restore only files belonging to the existing GSX installation, create a narrow exception if needed, and run the GSX update again. Do not disable all protection permanently.
- Load a simple test flight. Start at a gate at a stock airport, using a default aircraft with the parking brake set. This separates a global startup failure from an airport profile or scenery conflict.
- Remove conflicts temporarily. Move recent non-GSX packages out of
Communitywhile leaving the GSX links in place. If GSX starts, restore the other packages in small groups until the conflict returns.

Why is the GSX toolbar icon missing?
A missing GSX icon means either the toolbar item is hidden or Microsoft Flight Simulator has not loaded the GSX package correctly.
Open the in-flight toolbar and inspect its customisation options. An icon can be disabled or pushed into an overflow area without GSX itself being broken; our guide to restoring and customising the MSFS toolbar explains those controls.
If GSX is not listed anywhere in the toolbar, return to the installer and Community-folder checks. If the icon appears but its panel remains on a loading screen, concentrate on Couatl, security software and damaged files rather than toolbar settings.
Why does GSX open but not offer services?
If the GSX menu opens, the programme has started and the remaining problem is normally operational rather than an installation failure.
- Park on a recognised stand or gate rather than an arbitrary ramp position.
- Stop the aircraft and set the parking brake.
- Use a stand suitable for the selected aircraft and requested service.
- Test without a custom airport profile if only one location fails.
- Check that another pushback or ground-service process is not already active.

Does GSX start on Xbox or PlayStation?
GSX Pro does not run on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 because it depends on the external Windows-based Couatl engine and desktop installer.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on those consoles, but that does not make the PC edition of GSX compatible with them. A missing GSX panel on a console is therefore a platform limitation, not a startup fault that can be repaired through the simulator.
