Why is GSX not starting or its menu not loading in MSFS?
Fix GSX Pro not starting in MSFS 2020 or 2024: diagnose a missing, disappearing or endlessly loading menu, Couatl faults and broken links.
GSX Pro usually fails to start or leaves its menu loading in Microsoft Flight Simulator because Couatl is not running, security software blocked it, or GSX links to the wrong Community folder. Repair and update GSX, rebuild its package links, permit Couatl, then test a fully loaded flight at a stock gate on Windows PC.
GSX Pro works with MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 on Windows PC. It cannot run on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro because consoles do not support its external Windows-based Couatl programme. GSX also does not initialise at the simulator’s main menu; load a flight and wait for the cockpit and airport scenery before testing it.
What does the GSX symptom mean?
The failure pattern usually identifies whether the problem lies with Couatl, the simulator package or a particular airport or aircraft profile.

How do I fix GSX Pro not starting or stuck on loading?
The most reliable approach is to repair the existing installation and isolate the fault before deleting anything.
- Confirm the platform and simulator. GSX requires Windows PC. If MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 are both installed, make sure the installer is updating the simulator you actually launch.
- Close MSFS and Couatl completely. Exit the simulator and installer, then use the Windows system tray or Task Manager to check for an orphaned Couatl process. Restart Windows if it will not close normally.

- Rebuild the Community links. GSX keeps its main files outside
Communityand places links inside the active folder. Moving MSFS packages can leave those links pointing to an old location. Let the installer recreate them rather than copying GSX manually into several Community folders, which can create conflicting duplicates. - Check security software. Review Windows Security protection history and any third-party anti-virus quarantine for Couatl or GSX components. Restore only files installed by the authorised installer, create a narrow exception if required, then run the repair again. Do not leave system protection disabled.
- Run a controlled test. Load a default aircraft at a gate or parking stand at a stock airport, wait for the flight to finish loading and set the parking brake. Starting on a runway can make services unavailable, but it should not leave the panel loading indefinitely.
- Restart Couatl. Use its installed shortcut or the restart option supplied with GSX. If Couatl immediately closes again, return to the repair and security checks rather than repeatedly relaunching it.
- Isolate profiles and add-ons. Temporarily disable custom GSX profiles and unrelated Community packages while retaining GSX and its support components. Why is the GSX toolbar icon missing?
A missing icon means the toolbar item is hidden or the in-simulator GSX package did not load.
Inspect the in-flight toolbar’s customisation and overflow areas first. A running Couatl process does not prove that MSFS loaded the toolbar package from the active Community folder. If GSX is absent from the complete toolbar list, repair its links, remove duplicate copies and restart the simulator; repairing the package while a flight is open normally requires a full restart.
If the icon is present but the panel never progresses beyond its loading message, concentrate on Couatl, quarantined files and profile conflicts rather than toolbar visibility.
Why does the GSX menu keep disappearing?
If only the open panel closes while the toolbar icon remains and the requested service continues, GSX has not necessarily crashed.
Reopen the panel and check the GSX preferences for any available menu-timing option, as the exact controls can vary between builds. If the icon vanishes, the panel returns to “loading”, or active services stop, check whether Couatl has closed. Repeated Couatl crashes point back to blocked files, damaged components or a profile loaded for that airport or aircraft.
Why does GSX open but not offer services?
An open GSX menu proves that the programme started; unavailable services normally indicate an aircraft, stand or airport-data problem.
- Park on a recognised gate or stand rather than an arbitrary ramp position.
- Stop the aircraft and set the parking brake.
- Choose a stand suitable for the aircraft and requested service.
- End any competing pushback or ground-service process.
- Disable the custom profile if the problem affects only one airport or aircraft.
A profile built for another version of an airport may reference parking stands, jetways or service positions that no longer exist. Check that only one version of the airport scenery is active, then try the same aircraft at a stock airport to separate an airport fault from an aircraft configuration problem.
What if MSFS hangs after installing GSX?
If Microsoft Flight Simulator stops before reaching the cockpit, treat it as a package or installation conflict rather than a toolbar fault.
Temporarily disable GSX and repeat the same flight. If it loads, repair GSX and restore only its required packages before reintroducing profiles and other add-ons. If MSFS still fails with GSX disabled, follow our broader simulator startup and loading diagnosis instead.
