After decades in the flight simulation world, I can say this Florida Complete Photoreal Scenery for X-Plane 11 and 12 delivers an impressive transformation of the entire state. Its coverage stretches from Tallahassee down to the Florida Keys, replacing default textures with vivid satellite imagery that highlights key landmarks like the Everglades and stunning coastal areas.

This pre-compiled scenery add-on uses accurate roads and autogen for immersive realism, making VFR tours over bustling cities like Miami or smaller airfields truly come alive. In my opinion, it’s a benchmark for any simmer seeking a more authentic Florida flying experience and is well worth adding to your virtual hangar.

A complete package containing photorealistic scenery for the entire state of Florida. The package is compatible with X-Plane 12 and 11 and is complete with correct overlays including roads and autogen.

The Florida coastline in X-Plane 11 after installing the photorealistic scenery add-on.?The photorealistic scenery or Orthophotos have been sourced from satellite data and converted into a format that X-Plane understands using Ortho4XP.

The package covers the entire state of Florida - from Tallahassee all the way down to Key West. In fact, the Florida Keys are brought to life in amazing detail with warm blue water imagery, islands, and coastline fully covered in this release.

You can also experience the Everglades in photorealistic detail. Gone are the default textures that are used globally - this brings true-to-life imagery to make your virtual flights (especially VFR) more realistic and enjoyable.

Some great starting airports to start from in Florida to experience the scenery:

  • Key West International Airport (KEYW)
  • Miami International Airport (KMIA)
  • Daytona Beach International Airport (KDAB)
  • Clearwater Air Park (KCLW)
  • Okeechobee County Airport (KOBE)

Florida is full of general aviation airports and airfields due to its volume of tourism, especially for private pilots who want a quick sunny break in the Sunshine State.

Be aware, this is a large download and may take a long time on most Internet connections.

The entire package has been "pre-compiled" or "built" - so there is no need to run any lengthy conversion before using it - simply download and install. We found that users were willing to suffer longer download times instead of running lengthy batch conversions (JPG to DDS) themselves.

How to install this mod

X-Plane scenery

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Copy into Custom Scenery

    Place the scenery folder into X-Plane 12/Custom Scenery/.

  3. Set scenery load order

    X-Plane loads sceneries top-to-bottom from Custom Scenery/scenery_packs.ini. Custom airports should be ABOVE mesh and ortho-imagery.

  4. Restart X-Plane

    Close X-Plane completely and relaunch. The new content loads automatically.

  5. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

Sadly I am a simpleton and dyslexic and cannot get this to install in my X-Plane 11. I have followed the instructions but find them confusing. Is it not possible for the Authors of these add on's to write an installer which will just put everything where it belongs. The scenery looks fantastic, just a shame I can't see when I fly.

    I have downloaded the zip file and installed per the read me. I am having trouble seeing, for instance, the Daytona International Speedway, as seen in your sample video. I can see the race track better than the default scenery, but there are still trees placed all over the speedway, and no buildings or grandstands. Am I missing a step in the installation?

    I have read all the instructions and a dozen of other posts but cannot get this to show up. I do have an airport file for KORL that I need for flight training. Any ideas at all would be appreciated!

    I downloaded it and unzipped it into the custom scenery folder. Looking at the folder there is nothing obvious to me that it is the FlyAway version or whatever comes with X-Plane 11. Is there some way to tell?

    Downloaded OK took 5 hours or so. Just to update on Grand Canyon scenery managed it on 4th attempt on another PC and transferred across the network. I have installed it. Find the other part HD Ver 4 difficult to track down though.
