How do I adjust VR world scale and zoom in MSFS?

To adjust VR world scale in Microsoft Flight Simulator, open the VR settings while the headset is active and change World Scale in small steps around its 100% default. Use the dedicated VR Zoom control for temporary magnification; do not use render scale, which changes image resolution rather than cockpit size.

How to change VR world scale in Microsoft Flight Simulator

  1. Set the headset IPD first. Adjust the headset's physical or software interpupillary-distance control correctly. World Scale cannot fix eye strain, double vision or an incorrect lens position.
  2. Enter VR and centre the view. Sit naturally in your flying position, look straight ahead and use the VR camera reset command. If that command is not configured, follow our VR activation and cockpit recentering steps before changing scale.
  3. Open the VR settings. In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024, open Options or Settings while VR is running and locate World Scale in the VR mode or VR camera section. The exact menu grouping differs between the two simulators and can change with interface updates.
  4. Adjust it gradually. Start at 100% and move only a few percentage points at a time. In the native MSFS control, raising World Scale generally makes the cockpit appear smaller relative to you; lowering it makes the cockpit appear larger.
  5. Apply the setting and inspect familiar objects. Compare the yoke, seat width, instrument panel and door dimensions rather than judging from the runway outside. Test more than one aircraft before settling on a global value.

A mistake we see constantly is using World Scale to correct a poor seating position. If the glareshield is too high, the pedals are too close or your head starts outside the headrest, move or reset the VR camera instead. Scale is wrong only when the entire cockpit feels miniature or oversized.

How do I bind VR Zoom?

The dedicated VR zoom command provides temporary magnification for small instruments, distant runway details and cockpit displays.

  1. Open the simulator's Controls settings and select the keyboard, joystick or controller you want to use.
  2. Change the command filter from assigned controls to all available controls.
  3. Search for VR Zoom. Its wording may include “toggle” or a similar VR camera label depending on the simulator version and control preset.
  4. Assign it to an easily reached button and remove any conflicting binding.
  5. Return to VR and test whether the command operates by holding or toggling the assigned button.

For close switches, physically leaning forward usually feels more natural than magnifying the view. Reserve VR Zoom for instrument text and objects that would otherwise require an uncomfortable head position. What should MSFS VR world scale be set to?

For most headsets, 100% is the correct starting point rather than a universal value that must be changed.

Perceived scale varies with headset IPD configuration, lens position, face-interface thickness and the aircraft model. Adjust only enough to make familiar cockpit objects believable. Large corrections often indicate an IPD or camera-position problem rather than a genuine scale problem.

One value may not look perfect in every aircraft, particularly with third-party models. Choose a neutral setting that works across several accurately proportioned cockpits instead of chasing a separate value whenever you change aircraft.

Why is VR Zoom missing or not working?

  • The controls filter is hiding it: select all commands rather than assigned commands.
  • You edited the wrong device: bindings are stored against the selected keyboard, controller, yoke or joystick profile.
  • The button has a conflict: remove another camera, focus or cockpit-interaction command from the same input.
  • VR mode is not active: some VR options and their effects are visible only during an active headset session.
  • The zoomed image is blurry: zoom magnifies the pixels already being rendered. Correct VR resolution and anti-aliasing settings rather than changing World Scale.
  • The view snaps back incorrectly: reset the VR camera from your normal seated position, then test zoom again.
