How do I configure GSX replacement and multiple jetways in MSFS?

Ian Stephens
In short

Configure GSX Pro replacement and multiple jetways in MSFS, prevent duplicate bridges, position aircraft correctly and fix non-moving jetways.

Configure GSX Pro replacement jetways through the GSX installer: keep replacements enabled for stock Microsoft Flight Simulator airports, but exclude add-on airports that supply their own custom bridges. Multiple jetways work only where the scenery has two or more animated jetways and the aircraft profile, stand position and doors are correctly defined.

GSX Pro relies on external PC components, so this procedure applies to the PC editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. It is not available for the console editions.

Should I use GSX replacement jetways or the airport's jetways?

Use GSX replacements for standard MSFS jetways; retain an airport add-on's own models when its developer has supplied custom animated bridges.

Airport typeRecommended configurationReason
Stock or enhanced default airportLeave GSX replacement jetways enabledGSX can substitute its models for the simulator's standard jetways.
Add-on airport with custom jetwaysExclude the airport from GSX jetway replacementOtherwise, custom and replacement bridges can appear together or conflict.
Add-on airport using standard MSFS jetwaysUsually leave replacements enabledThe airport may still benefit from GSX models if it has not supplied its own assets.
Airport with static bridge modelsUse the scenery as suppliedGSX cannot turn a decorative, non-animated model into a working jetway.

An airport exclusion affects the replacement jetway models, not normal GSX boarding, catering, baggage and pushback services. A mistake we see constantly is disabling all of GSX when only one add-on airport needs excluding.

How do I configure GSX replacement jetways?

  1. Close Microsoft Flight Simulator. Jetway packages and exclusions should be changed while the simulator is not loading scenery.
  2. Update GSX Pro. Run the GSX installer and let it repair or update the installed components before changing airport settings.
  3. Open the jetway configuration tool. Use the GSX Pro configuration or exclusion function supplied with the installer.
  4. Review each add-on airport. Exclude the ICAO of any airport that provides its own custom jetways. Do not exclude every third-party airport automatically; some use the standard simulator assets.
  5. Apply the configuration. Allow the installer to rebuild or relink the relevant GSX packages, then start MSFS again.
  6. Inspect one affected stand. Confirm that there is one set of bridges, that each bridge sits at the correct elevation and that no GSX model overlaps the airport's own scenery.

Do not assume the configuration tool has detected every packaged airport. If a newly installed or Marketplace airport shows doubled bridges, add its ICAO to the exclusions manually. Our guide to installing GSX and setting airport exclusions covers the package checks behind this process.

How do I make multiple GSX jetways connect?

Multiple jetways connect only when the airport, parking stand and aircraft provide a valid combination; enabling replacement models does not create an extra bridge.

  1. Choose a genuine multi-jetway stand. It must contain two or more functional jetway objects, not one animated bridge beside a static model.
  2. Check independent animation. Some scenery depicts two bridges but defines them as one scripted object, or makes only one bridge controllable through MSFS. GSX cannot operate a second bridge that the scenery has not exposed as an animated jetway.
  3. Verify the aircraft profile. Passenger exits such as L1, L2 or an upper-deck door must be enabled and positioned accurately in the GSX aircraft editor. A misplaced exit can leave the second bridge outside its permitted reach.
  4. Park at the GSX stopping position. Follow the marshaller or VDGS and stop on the centreline. Being a few metres short, long or sideways may allow the nearest bridge to connect while placing the other outside its movement limits.
  5. Use GSX to operate the jetways. Request the jetway operation from the GSX menu. Avoid issuing the simulator's jetway shortcut during the same sequence, because competing commands can leave one bridge connected and another unresponsive.

A two-bridge gate is not guaranteed to reach any two aircraft doors. The pivot position, arm length, aircraft wings and door spacing still govern what can connect. Our step-by-step double-jetway procedure explains the parking and door-profile checks in more detail.

Does GSX add extra jetways to an airport?

No. GSX replacement jetways substitute models at existing jetway positions; they do not redesign the stand or place a second bridge where the airport contains only one.

A GSX airport profile can refine stopping positions and service behaviour, while an aircraft profile defines door locations. Neither profile changes the airport's physical scenery. Adding another bridge requires an airport scenery edit with a properly configured animated jetway object.

Why do I see duplicate, misaligned or non-moving jetways?

Duplicate jetways normally mean GSX replacements are active at an airport that already includes custom bridges. Exclude that airport by ICAO, apply the configuration with MSFS closed and restart the simulator.

  • Only one of two bridges moves: confirm that the second is independently animated and within reach of an enabled aircraft exit.
  • Both bridges are present but overlap: remove the replacement conflict by excluding the custom airport.
  • The bridge stops short: correct the aircraft door position and park at the intended stop point.
  • No GSX replacement appears anywhere: run the installer again and check that the GSX packages or links remain enabled.
  • A custom airport uses its own control system: its jetways may need the scenery's supplied operating method rather than GSX's command.
  • A previously working bridge freezes: restart GSX/Couatl using its restart command, then reload the stand if necessary.

If the configuration is correct but the bridge still refuses to animate, follow our focused checks for GSX jetways that refuse to move. That separates scenery conflicts and parking errors from a stalled GSX/Couatl process.
