How do I use the MSFS 2024 Marketplace on Xbox?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Use the MSFS 2024 Marketplace on Xbox: buy or claim add-ons, manage My Library, check compatibility and fix missing purchases.

On Xbox Series X|S, open Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, select Marketplace from the main menu, find an Xbox-compatible product, check its simulator version and requirements, then buy or claim it. Afterwards, open My Library to stream, download, enable or remove the content; purchasing it does not always make it active.

How do I buy an add-on from the MSFS 2024 Marketplace?

  1. Sign in with the correct Xbox profile. Marketplace ownership is tied to the account used for the transaction. Do not assume another profile on the console will inherit the purchase.
  2. Open Marketplace. Let Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 finish connecting to its online services, then select Marketplace from the main menu.
  3. Find the product. Browse its categories or use the available search and filter controls. Free products still need to be claimed before they appear as owned.
  4. Check compatibility. The listing must support Xbox and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Do not rely on the product name alone: some add-ons were created for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and compatibility with 2024 varies.
  5. Read the requirements. Check for a required base aircraft, an edition-specific dependency, storage needs and any warning about limited Xbox features.
  6. Complete the transaction. Paid products may use FlightSim Credits purchased through Xbox checkout. Buying the credit pack only adds the balance; return to the product page and complete the add-on purchase as a separate step.
  7. Confirm that it says Owned. Open My Library and choose the available streaming, downloading or enabling option for that package.

If you want freeware, use the Marketplace's price filter and claim each item with the profile that will use it. Our guide to finding free Xbox-compatible Marketplace add-ons explains why free PC downloads cannot simply be copied to the console.

Where do Marketplace purchases appear on Xbox?

Ordinary Marketplace purchases appear in My Library inside Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, rather than behaving like separate Xbox games. Clear any library filters if a newly purchased item seems to be missing.

Opening an owned product shows the management choices available for that package. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is designed to stream much of its content, but some packages can also be stored locally. The exact controls vary by add-on and simulator update.

OptionBest used whenTrade-off
StreamYou want to conserve console storage and have a stable connectionLoading and availability depend more heavily on the network
DownloadYou use the add-on regularly and the package offers local installationConsumes storage and may need separate updates
Disable or removeYou are troubleshooting a conflict or reclaiming spaceThe add-on will not appear until enabled, streamed or downloaded again

Aircraft normally appear in the aircraft selector, liveries under their matching aircraft, and airport scenery at the relevant location. A scenery purchase does not create a separate menu icon. For the full package workflow, see our Xbox add-on installation and My Library guide.

What should I check before buying Marketplace content?

Check the platform, simulator generation and dependencies before spending any credits. Marketplace approval does not mean every product supports every platform or every edition.

  • Xbox support: The listing should explicitly include Xbox. A PC-only product cannot be sideloaded afterwards.
  • MSFS 2024 support: Look for stated 2024 compatibility rather than assuming every MSFS 2020 package has migrated without limitations.
  • Required aircraft: A livery, sound package or expansion may need a separately owned aircraft or a particular simulator edition. Our Xbox aircraft compatibility checks cover the details that are easy to miss.
  • Duplicate scenery: Avoid running two detailed versions of the same airport. Overlapping packages can cause misplaced objects, doubled buildings or poorer performance.
  • Console performance: Dense airports and complex aircraft can place a heavier load on the simulator, particularly when combined with live traffic and demanding weather.
  • Control requirements: Xbox compatibility does not guarantee that every cockpit is comfortable with a controller alone. Complex aircraft are usually easier to operate with a mouse attached.

Xbox users are limited to content distributed through the in-simulator Marketplace and official entitlements. ZIP archives, USB packages and PC Community-folder add-ons cannot be installed; our explanation of the Xbox mod restrictions covers that boundary in detail.

Why is the MSFS 2024 Marketplace unavailable or a purchase missing?

A disabled Marketplace or missing entitlement is usually caused by an account, connection, update or library-filter problem. Work through these checks before attempting to buy the item again.

  1. Quit the simulator fully. Remove it from Quick Resume and relaunch it so the Xbox account and Marketplace session authenticate again.
  2. Confirm the active profile. Use the same Xbox profile that bought the credits and add-on.
  3. Check connectivity. The Marketplace needs the simulator's online services. Restore online functionality and restart the console if other online features are also unavailable.
  4. Install pending updates. An outdated simulator or Xbox system build can prevent the catalogue or library from loading correctly.
  5. Clear My Library filters. Select the owned-content view and remove filters that hide items which are not downloaded or enabled.
  6. Check storage. If a download stalls, free console space, restart the package and avoid queueing several large installations at once.
  7. Check account restrictions. Child-account permissions, family payment controls or purchasing restrictions can block checkout even when browsing works.

If FlightSim Credits were deducted but the product still asks for payment, do not buy it a second time. Restart the simulator, let My Library resynchronise, preserve the transaction record and use the official Marketplace support route if the entitlement still does not appear.
