Find MSFS 2024 Stream Deck icons, install them correctly, and avoid confusing image-only icon packs with working profiles and SimConnect actions.
You can download MSFS 2024 Stream Deck icons through the icon-pack library available in the Stream Deck desktop application, from packs bundled with compatible flight-sim profiles or plug-ins, or create square PNG files yourself. Apply each image to a key after assigning its action; an icon by itself does not control the simulator.
Where should you get MSFS 2024 Stream Deck icons?
The safest sources are the Stream Deck application's own icon library and files supplied with a trusted profile or flight-sim integration you already use.
- Stream Deck icon library: Best for generic switches, navigation controls, arrows and aviation-style symbols. Installation is handled through the desktop application.
- Profile or plug-in packages: These may include matching icons, layouts and actions. Check that the package explicitly supports MSFS 2024 if it contains more than image files.
- Your own PNG images: Best when you want aircraft-specific labels or a consistent cockpit layout. Use square images with clear symbols, strong contrast and minimal text.
For the complete control configuration rather than just the artwork, follow our MSFS Stream Deck profile and button setup. We recommend building a small working profile first, then replacing its generic artwork with your chosen icons.
What does an icon pack actually include?
An icon pack normally contains artwork only, while profiles and plug-ins supply the behaviour behind the buttons.
| Download type | What it provides | What you still need |
|---|---|---|
| Icon pack | PNG or similar image files | A keyboard, multi-action or plug-in command for every key |
| Stream Deck profile | Button pages, actions and often icons | Matching MSFS control bindings and compatible plug-ins |
| Flight-sim plug-in | Simulator commands and sometimes live status | Correct installation, connection and aircraft support |
A mistake we see constantly is treating a folder of attractive icons as a finished control panel. If the download contains only images, every button must still be configured manually.
How do I install and use a Stream Deck icon in MSFS 2024?
Assign the simulator command first and add its icon afterwards, so the artwork always matches the button's real function.
- Extract the download: Unzip the icon pack into a permanent folder. Moving or deleting that folder later can leave the Stream Deck profile with missing artwork.
- Create or copy a profile: Keep a separate MSFS 2024 profile rather than editing a general desktop layout.
- Add the action: Drag a hotkey, multi-action or compatible simulator action onto the desired key.
- Match the MSFS binding: For a hotkey action, assign the same keyboard combination in Microsoft Flight Simulator's control settings. Our downloadable MSFS keyboard-command reference helps when planning and labelling buttons.
- Apply the artwork: Select the key, open its icon image selector and choose the extracted PNG. The software scales square artwork for the attached Stream Deck model.
- Test inside the aircraft: Confirm that the command works in the intended cockpit and that it has not been assigned to another function.
Use the Stream Deck title field for labels where possible instead of baking long text into the image. That keeps the symbol readable and makes later renaming much easier.
Will MSFS 2020 Stream Deck icons work in MSFS 2024?
Yes, MSFS 2020 icon images can be reused in MSFS 2024 because they are ordinary artwork, but the associated profiles and commands are not automatically compatible.
- PNG icons: Reusable without simulator-specific conversion.
- Keyboard profiles: Usually reusable after checking every MSFS 2024 keyboard binding.
- Plug-in actions: Reusable only when that integration supports MSFS 2024.
- Aircraft-specific controls: May fail if the newer aircraft exposes different commands, events or cockpit systems.
If an imported profile does not activate automatically, check its application association or select it manually. The profile may still be linked to the older simulator executable.
Why does the icon appear but the button do nothing?
A visible icon with no response means the artwork loaded correctly but the underlying action, binding or simulator connection did not.
- No action was assigned: Add a hotkey or simulator command beneath the icon.
- The key combination differs: Compare the Stream Deck hotkey with the binding saved in MSFS 2024.
- Another binding conflicts: Search the simulator's controls for duplicate assignments.
- The wrong profile is active: Switch to the MSFS profile manually and recheck automatic profile selection.
- The command is aircraft-dependent: Test a basic function such as parking brake or landing lights before diagnosing an advanced avionics action.
- The plug-in cannot communicate: For data-driven actions, use our SimConnect installation and repair checks.
- Application privileges do not match: Keyboard input can be blocked when one application runs with elevated privileges and the other does not. Run both at the same privilege level.
How do I make icons show live aircraft status?
Static image and hotkey buttons cannot reliably show whether a switch is actually on or off. A two-state action can alternate between two images, but accurate gear, light, autopilot or system status requires a compatible data-driven integration, commonly through SimConnect.
Can Stream Deck icons be used with MSFS 2024 on console?
Stream Deck control is not natively supported by the Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 versions of MSFS 2024. The setup described here uses the Stream Deck desktop application and is intended for the Windows PC edition; installing icons on a computer does not make the device control the console version directly.
